Fernando Torres needs a top class partner

I THINK people will be drawing their own conclusions from the fact that Peter Crouch, John Arne Riise and Jermaine Pennant were not involved against City.

Rafa Benitez will already be planning his squad for next season and the chances of those three being at Anfield by then appear slim.

I like Crouch and if he does leave then Liverpool will need a £15m-20m striker to replace him.

But if we are to challenge for the title then the manager has to be given the freedom to bring in and let go whichever players he likes. If he is able to do that then it takes away all excuses.

Liverpool only need three or four new signings but one of those has to be another striker to partner Torres in a 4-4-2 because we need the option of changing the system when necessary.

Hopefully, by the time the new season comes around Benitez will have a squad which he feels is equipped to challenge for the title. That's what every Liverpool fan wants.

Perfect lift when it was needed most

FERNANDO Torres' winning goal against Manchester City at the weekend proved once again what a top class striker he is.

It is one thing for strikers to score when their team is three or four goals up because goals are fairly easy to come by at times like that.

But when it is 0-0 and there's not much happening, that's when you really have to earn your corn by taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

That's exactly what Torres did against City and the fantastic goal he scored was enough to give Liverpool all three points.

The game really needed that goal as well because there was a feeling of disappointment around the ground until then.

The players were clearly still flat after going out of the Champions League, but Torres' goal lifted everyone.

After that, Liverpool's performance improved and although the final score was only 1-0 I thought they were really comfortable winners.

Much of the credit for that must go to Torres.

I think if Peter Crouch given a decent run of games he would have scored more than 25 goals so far. By minutes he has played so far this season I think he the best goalscorer in liverpool. Crouch is a bit physically weak. If he put some muscles about 10kg on his weight he will be very much stronger and I can assure you that he will be able to score more 45 goals a season because he very clever and skillful.

Personally I like Crouch up front with Torres, and I don't believe he has been given the chance to forge that partnership. Crouchy holds the ball up very well and distributes equally as well. He obviously gives us a diferent dimension in the box with his height. Why Raf has chosen Kuyt over Crouch is beyond me. If Torres goes down for any length of time next season who will score for us? You will never be able to replace what Crouch gives us without spending 15 to 20 million pounds on another striker, does that make any sense? I think Raf needs to take a closer look at what he has in Crouch and mend whatever fences he has made with him. Thanks

i think that we need world class players not 2nd class or even 3rd class players as we were bringing with great respect for those present. we need the like huntelaar, querezma and so on to compete with our rivals. but the important first thing is to settle the ownership of the club get rid of the yanks!!!!
