Season isn't over for the players who need to prove they should stay at Anfield
SO no trophies for Liverpool to play for this season but that doesn't mean their season ended on Wednesday.
There are two league games left to play and with several players playing for their futures they must be taken seriously.
Everyone knows the identity of those players who might not be around next season and it is up to them to use tomorrow's game against Man City and next week's against Spurs to stake their claim to stay at Anfield.
Believe me, Liverpool is not the kind of club you leave willingly. As a player you want to be spend as long there as long as possible.
But Rafa Benitez has some tough decisions to make. when it comes to shaping his squad for the new campaign and is likely to take that decision out of the hands of several players.
With quite a few players likely to leave that means new signings will be coming in and for me the manager has to ask himself a simple question every time he considers bringing someone in - are they good enough for Man United, Chelsea or Arsenal.
They are the clubs Liverpool are competing with and if they are to challenge for the title then any new signing has to be up to their standards.
If they are then Liverpool will improve but if they are not then there is no point in signing them - it's as simple as that.
Over the last 12 months the likes of Mascherano, Torres and Skrtel have really impressed. A few more of their ilk could make a massive difference.
