Liverpool fans still have huge grounds for concern

WITH a fanfare of trumpets and a glossy futuristic image, Liverpool proudly announced this week that "enabling works have started" on the brand new LFC stadium.

But still those ungrateful sods who are expected to fill the place didn't get excited.

Tom and George could be forgiven for asking: "You demanded a spade in the ground. What's the problem now?"

The answer's simple.

The problem is that maybe Reds fans are not as naïve as the American owners think they are. And maybe they've all got access to a dictionary.

Because the definition of 'enabling work' is "Preliminary work necessary to enable the phase major development to be carried out later."

So Liverpool can sweep Stanley car park, chop down a few trees. Hey, maybe even dig a very big hole.

But before they can start to fill it with foundations for anything resembling a football stadium they still must find about £300m.

And that's the issue which hasn't been addressed yet. That's why Liverpool fans aren't rushing to revise their opinions of Tom and George.

They've endured too many broken promises, witnessed too many PR blunders and heard too many soundbites in front of roaring log-fires to start saying "Gee, we had those American guys wrong all along."

So while work officially started on the new Anfield on June 23, the telling words were the ones which closed Tuesday's press release: "The stadium is on programme to open for the beginning of the 2011-12 season."

That is good news.

Provided it still happens.

So, while a spade has finally gone into the ground . . . it won't be until a red and white flag flutters over a space age roof that Reds fans will really believe the new LFC stadium is a going concern.

Good call amigo. I don't believe anything either one of these two clowns says on any subject. I know Hicks in particular has got some of his people working the various fansites to build this "event" up but I would advise extreme caution to all Liverpool fans before getting too excited.

I agree wholheartedly. This pair caught us all on the hop when they bought the club, (with help I might add from that traitor Parry) but do the honestly think they can pull the wool again? I think not.

behave paddy your not that soft a few fences a portacabin.....also they didn't put the money up for Torres a bankloan secured against Kop holdings interest paid by LFC NOT G & H did.

they had their chance with us they blew it they have lied and cheated.

This is just publicity so they can say to the banks look we are talking now, the fans back us so please finance us with the extra £300m needed to build the stadium.

If we fall for this stunt we deserve all we get....Never believe them never trust them.

Paddy,

How much did the tumourous pair put in themselves? Not a cent.. It’s thanks to RBS that we have Torres. Liars are liars and when you have a track record like these guys ( Corinthians, Texas Rangers, bankruptcies etc) as well as their track record with us there is no forgiveness. The sooner the twin cancer that infests the body of LFC is removed and they crawl back under their stones with their spawn the better!!
