Liverpool FC to face Standard Liege in Champions League
Story by James Pearce
LIVERPOOL will face Belgian outfit Standard Liege in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
The Reds will be away for the first leg on August 12 or 13 with the return match at Anfield on August 26 or 27.
Liege won their first Belgian League title for 25 years back in April after embarking on a 31-game unbeaten run.
The two clubs met in the second round of the Cup Winners Cup in the 1965/66 campaign when the Reds won the tie 5-2 on aggregate.
In the other third qualifying round ties, Arsenal will face Dutch outfit FC Twente, who are managed by former England boss Steve McClaren.
If Rangers overcome Kaunas their reward is a clash with either Aalborg or Modrica.
