Robbie Keane: 'We must make most of home advantage'

ROBBIE KEANE reckons every Liverpool player will be champing at the bit when tonight's "must win" clash with Standard Liege gets under way.

The Reds head into tonight's second leg knowing they are just one win away from a place in the Champions League and Keane insists they will do everything they can to ensure the opportunity does not pass them by.

Despite delivering a below par performance in the first leg a fortnight ago Liverpool still managed to secure a goalless draw and are hot favourites to make it through to the lucrative stages.

And Keane believes they will put their recent form behind them as they go in search of what would be a crucial victory.

But the Irish international also warned that Standard showed in the first leg that they will be no pushover and knows Liverpool will have to make the most of their home advantage if they are to deliver a knockout blow to the Belgian champions.

"We know what a big game this is but then every game is a must win when you are at a club like Liverpool," he said.

"It was difficult when we played Liege away and we certainly weren't at our best that night but we know how important this game is because Liverpool need to be in the Champions League and I'm sure the lads will be right up for the game and looking forward to it.

"It was a tough game away. They played well and made things difficult for us but luckily Pepe Reina saved us when he saved a penalty and now we have to look to make the most of that by taking advantage of the fact that this time it's us who are at home.

"We know the fans will be right behind us because they are always fantastic, particularly on European nights, and hopefully we will give them something to enjoy tonight."

Keane is still to register his first goal in a red shirt since joining Liverpool in a £20m move in July but he believes there are signs that his potentially mouth watering partnership with Fernando Torres is finally starting to click into gear.

He said: "Fernando and myself managed to link up quite a few times against Middlesbrough on Saturday, so there are definitely a few signs there that the partnership is developing.

"It would obviously have been nicer if one of us would have scored but it doesn't really matter who gets the goals as long as someone does and the results follow, that's the most important thing."

Rafa Benitez has no new injury worries ahead of tonight's clash, although Sami Hyypia will again not be available as he continues to recover from the hamstring strain which kept him out of Saturday's 2-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Albert Riera was today due to arrive on Merseyside as Liverpool attempt to push a deal through for the Espanyol winger before the weekend.

Why are we attempting to buy Riera when there are players like Jesus Navas who are a lot better.
