Time for the Kop to lift Robbie Keane

By Tommy Smith on Aug 20, 08 11:35 PM in Columnists

I WOULDN'T be too critical of the Reds for not performing too well as they might have done at Sunderland.

It was much better than out in Belgium, we thoroughly deserved to win it and a fantastic strike from Fernando Torres ensured we did.

Now we can look forward to Middlesbrough this Saturday and our first home league game.

I'm looking forward to seeing Robbie Keane in particular. I'm sure the Kop will give him a great welcome and make him feel relaxed and at home.

Then hopefully he can get down to concentrating on his game and playing his part in another win.

Personally I'd like to see him higher up the pitch a little, playing with Torres rather than off Torres. That's a role Steven Gerrard fulfills so well already.

I've got no doubt Robbie Keane will be a really good player for Liverpool, his boyhood club.

Like everyone at Anfield I'll be willing him on against Boro.

Hm, I am not sure whether we really deserved to win last Saturday. I thought we were lucky not to concede a goal in the first half. As for Robbie Keane playing higher up the pitch, well I thought he and Fernando stood in each others way more than once. Surely they will develop some understanding in time. Surely a bit more width would be nice. Kuyt proved one thing against Sunderland which is that he is not a winger, not even a right midfielder. I really would like to know what Pennant did wrong as he gets overlooked all of the time. Surely he isn't world class, but at least he is a winger.
