Great result in Europe - but we still need more from some players

LAST night's victory in Marseille looks great on paper.

Coming away with the points against a side which has improved since Liverpool thrashed them 4-0 last season was always the most important thing.

But I was pleased to hear Steven Gerrard and Benitez both being critical of the performance, particularly in the second half.

One or two players who gave their all on Saturday did begin to tire. But that's where the new players brought in had to show their mettle.

Lucas Leiva was one of those players, but for me he really didn't have the impact in midfield we needed.
This is a big season for the young Brazilian. He has been given plenty of time to settle in and lots of first team opportunities last season.

I wasn't happy with his overall performance last night. He must improve both his tackling, positional play and use of the ball.

It's time now he started to impress, not disappoint.
