Liverpool fans given Euro flights brush-off by Ryanair

LIVERPOOL FC fans are seeing red after their cheap flights to Madrid were cancelled.

Supporters bought trips to Spain for the game against Atletico Madrid on October 22, moments after the Champions League draw was announced.

Some fans bought flights between £1-15 while the airline ran a series of special offers.

But this week, Ryanair said flights from East Midlands had been cancelled.

They will have to book flights to Madrid with prices now over £100.

Ryanair denied the sudden cancellations were an attempt to charge higher prices.

They say they are offering refunds, but in some cases this amounts to only a few pounds, and refuse to re-route disappointed customers.

A spokeswoman insisted the changes were part of the company's winter review and flights from East Midlands to Madrid were set to end on October 1.

Watchdog The Air Transport Users Council (AUC) criticised Ryan Airline for 'poor practice', but conceded they were operating legally.

Events organiser David Bates, 26, from Litherland, booked four flights to Madrid, priced at £5.50 one way.

He said: "We were told the flight was cancelled and now we're having to consider a £55 flight to Paris and then one to Madrid."

Hi Guys,

Graham has a good point, however this is not the only cheap way to get to Madrid. You could fly to Barcelona (Reus or Girona) with Ryan air on the 21st Oct for between £5 and £30 return from Luton and stay over. Then you could either get train or hire a car for as little as £42 until the Thursday. Good Luck and see you there!

Another alternative is you could get the night train from Barcelone (www.raileurope.com) and sleep on your way!
