Fan Column: Doubts blown away at the Bridge
IF Liverpool came into the Chelsea fixture with any doubts about their pedigree, they were emphatically answered at Stamford Bridge.
It was a mature and professional display and every player deserves credit for the concentration in getting the reds over the finishing line.
It was never going to be easy to defeat a side that hadn't lost in 86 games at home. But Liverpool made Chelsea look ordinary, so much so that I wondered at times if Nicolas Anelka was still on the red's payroll. Without Didier Drogba the Londoners looked toothless up front. In stark contrast Liverpool were intelligent and probing without the talismanic Fernando Torres.
Special mention must go to the goalscorer Xabi Alonso, who has been like the prodigal son this season. It's a measure of the man's character and professionalism that he can put all the unrest in pre-season to one side and roll out these types of performances. And he was very unfortunate not to get a second goal which would have put the travelling Kop nerves at ease.
Javier Mascherano was also sensational mopping up Chelsea's limited attacks.
Next up is Portsmouth and Liverpool need to maintain their momentum - a win is an absolute must. They will now receive a few extra inches of press coverage and the mind games will also inevitably happen from people like Alex Ferguson, so now it really is serious stuff.
It would be a travesty if Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard did not have a championship medal at the end of their careers. But this win has made that a real distinct possibility now.

The reds once more are starting to become a force to be reackoned with like they were in the good old days. Benitez states that this sends out a massive message to the other clubs..well that message is quite simple- 'you play us and we will F~#K you up!!!' NO MESSIN WITH THE MIGHTY REDS
LFC are now a team, what a perfomance, just hope we don't fail against lesser opposition as we have in the past. Go for it Raffa
