MANCHESTER CITY have denied a report in Spanish newspaper Marca that they have offered Fernando Torres a "double your money" offer to join the Eastlands revolution.

The Madrid-based paper, the highest selling in Spain, reported yesterday that Sulaiman Al-Fahim, the public face of the Abu Dhabi United group who control City, approached Torres' representatives a fortnight ago with a mind-boggling offer.

The same report also declared that Torres immediately rebuffed the approach.

But, possibly mindful of being accused of an illegal approach, City have moved quickly to dispel the story.

A spokesperson said: "At no time has any Manchester City official, or anybody representing the club, contacted Fernando Torres, his representatives or Liverpool Football Club."

Rafa Benitez has also made it clear that Torres is off limits regardless of any offer Liverpool receive.

"If you put a price up for someone people will say you are selling so I would not put a price on Torres," said the Liverpool manager. "Every big player has value but Torres has no value for us. He is unbuyable."

The player himself is also completely happy at Anfield and has five years left on his current contract.

In the same report Marca also mischievously claimed: "While there remains the possibility that Rafa Benitez could leave the club at the end of the season, Torres will not rule out leaving Liverpool next June."

Marca has been accused in the past, by Sir Alex Ferguson, of being "a vehicle to unsettle players" on behalf of Real Madrid.

But if this is the start of a long term plan to unsettle the Reds' top scorer it looks doomed to failure.

The report, written by Jose Vicente Hernaez, claimed "Torres' contract runs out in 2010."

Torres actually signed a six year contract last July and has consistently spoken of his love for Liverpool and life in Merseyside.
