Something of Istanbul about Liverpool's League charge
THERE was something of an 'Istanbul' in Manchester, where Liverpool proved with this sensational comeback that once and for all they've got the character and the inner belief to mount a serious title challenge.
The great Fernando Torres was facing the club making serious overtures for his affections, but the Spaniard emphatically told them where to shove it.
Why go out for a hamburger when you've got a steak at home, eh Fernando?
Much will be made of the sending off but really City were extremely fortunate to be in front in this game and the red card seemed like justice almost.
This also served to galvanise Liverpool and fresh from his milestone midweek Steven Gerrard once again stepped up to the plate and delivered the all to familiar never-say-die attitude.
This was infectious as he rallied the rest of the troops towards the finish line.
One of those was Dirk Kuyt who deserved his first league goal in almost a year, and added to his now cult status.
Albert Riera again excelled and his former side will be smarting from his performance, there's much more to come from the winger and if he can add goals to his game, then he could be one of our best signings for a long time, when the relatively low fee is weighed up.
A major setback was the departure of Martin Skrtel and everyone will hope that he will be back as soon as possible.
But how ironic that in the week when speculation reached fever point on Daniel Agger's future, he is now likely to be rushed back into action quicker than we all thought.
It's a shame that Liverpool aren't topping the table as we enter the international break, but on this performance they sent out a clear message of intent.
The hunger is there and if players such as substitutes Andrea Dossena and Robbie Keane can reach the heights we know they're capable of, this team really could be the total package.
Can't wait to resume battle!

the only reason we aren't sitting on top of the table is because of the wrongly disallowed Gerrard's goal against Stoke.
