Jamie Carragher: We must keep spirits up - Liverpool FC

JAMIE CARRAGHER today admitted that having shown they can beat the best, Liverpool are going to have to show they can also beat the rest if they are to challenge for the title.

The Reds stumbled to a disappointing goalless draw against Fulham at the weekend, on a day when all the big four drew a blank.

Though unhappy with Liverpool's failure to take advantage of their rivals slipping up, Carragher insists no-one at Anfield should allow themselves to become demoralised at Saturday's result.

He also believes Rafa Benitez's side should be concentrating on their own form and nobody else's as the battle at the top of the Premier League becomes increasingly tense.

"Of course you want to win these games. But when it doesn't happen you can't afford to get too downhearted because it's a tough league.

" I'm sure there are going to be plenty of games like that between now and next May," said Carragher.

"We haven't played well and we realise that but if you look at the Chelsea result I'm sure they would have been expecting to win their home game as well.

"The most important thing is our own results though, because as this stage of the season we should just be concentrating on ourselves and our own form."

Liverpool have notched up memorable wins against Manchester United and Chelsea already this season, but have also been held at home by both Stoke and Fulham.

Carragher refused to criticise Roy Hodgson's side for being content to play on the break. He admitted it is a tactic Liverpool must be able to overcome if they are to get themselves involved in the title shake up.

He said: "Against Fulham we haven't hit the heights. They played well and I wouldn't say we deserved to win because I suppose they could have nicked one as well.

"Pretty much every team that comes to Anfield plays counter-attacking football and we can't complain about that especially as we've done the same thing in many big away games in Europe.

"We've just got to adapt to it if we want to challenge for the title."

Carragher's message was repeated by team mate Alvaro Arbeloa, who called on the Reds to start making life easier.

He said: "We had two or three clear chances to score and we have to start taking them.

"In the first-half we didn't play that well. We improved in the second but we couldn't find the goal to win the match.

"It was very frustrating. We have the same problem when teams come to Anfield, but it's up to us to break them down."
