LIVERPOOL Reserves ended a run of four successive league defeats in Premier Reserve League North with victory over Wigan at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Spanish starlet Danny Pacheco secured the points in the second half when he smashed home Vincent Weijl's cross.

The Reds got off to a nervy start and Wigan striker Joe Holt had a number of chances to break the deadlock.

Gerardo Bruna went close with a 30-yard free-kick, but Wigan were soon back on the attack and Tomasz Cywka was denied by keeper Dean Bouzanis.

In the second half the Reds' defending was more solid and their attacks more incisive.

Weijl had a shot deflected just wide, Emiliano Insua went close with a 35-yard piledriver and Jordy Brouwer failed to convert a decent chance in the box.

The breakthrough finally arrived on 62 minutes.

Pacheco found space in the box after another excellent Weijl cross and turned a defender before firing past Mike Pollitt.

After that, the Reds laid siege to the Wigan goal with a series of attacks, but in the end the solitary goal was enough to secure a second league victory.

Liverpool Reserves: Bouzanis, Darby (Ayala 45mins), Insua, San Jose Dominguez, Kelly, Plessis, Bruna (Duran 61mins), Spearing, Brouwer (Simon 73mins), Pacheco, Weijl

Unused subs: Gulacsi, Irwin
