VIEW FROM THE STANDS: Hull will be tough but win is vital

HULL are certainly the surprise package this season and given the results they have had you can't say they don't deserve to be where they are, their 2-1 win away to Arsenal making people sit up and take notice.

We are always told the league table doesn't lie but it seems in some quarters Liverpool being top of the pile is seen as an aberration?

Today's game is a tricky one.

Hull will be playing with confidence and have got nothing to lose.

They and their fans will relish a visit to Anfield and even more so because we currently lead the table.

The onus is on us.

We managed to win our Champions league qualification group during the week with a largely second-string side against PSV.

A compliment to Hull is the fact that they will present a much sterner test than the champions of Holland.

We have an important few games coming up.

Hull today, Arsenal at the Emirates next Sunday. Bolton at home on Boxing Day - how apt is that? - and Newcastle away just two days later.

Rafa will be asking Santa for 12 points and to be top of the league as we enter 2009.

Hull play some good stuff mixed in with good organisation and team spirit.

We'll have to match their desire and make sure we don't slip up as we have recently against Stoke and West Ham. Not an easy game this one but one we simply must win.
