Liverpool FC boss Rafa Benitez ready to step up year-long chase for David Silva

RAFAEL BENITEZ is ready to reignite his interest in Spain international David Silva.
The Liverpool manager has been tracking the versatile Valencia attacking midfielder for more than a year.
And Benitez has now identified Silva as one of his main targets in the summer as he aims to capitalise on the huge financial difficulties of his former employers.
Benitez is already considering a swoop on the Mestalla for highly-rated centre-back Raul Albiol, should Daniel Agger refuse to sign a new contract at Anfield.
Valencia are a reported £400million in debt and have privately accepted they will have to sell some of their leading players to help ease the fiscal burden, including striker David Villa.
Liverpool have already made tentative enquiries about Silva's availability, but will only make any concrete offer should Valencia suggest a realistic valuation.
But Benitez believes the La Liga team's precarious financial position will help drive down the reported £25m asking price for the 23-year-old Silva, one of the stars of Euro 2008.
Silva - also a target for Barcelona and Juventus - can play in a number of attacking positions and, like Albiol, worked with Eduardo Macia when the Liverpool chief scout was at Valencia.
