The Season is Not Over in September

Rafa Benitez in an interview exclusively shown on LFCTV said today that the title is not won in September. How anyone can believe otherwise, appears to be a strange phenomenon. A lot of clubs and the press seem to have written Liverpool off because they had the misfortune to lose their first couple of games.

This season is still in its infancy and can and will only improve. We have played three premiership games and also had a couple of international breaks. To be honest I don't think any of the premiership clubs have been able to allow their players to settle back into the match day routine. I know the idea of the pre season games is for players to get themselves fit and ready for the challenge ahead.

Why are we being written off? I honestly think a lot of it is to unsettle the players. After last season, when we had come so close to bringing the title home the frighteners have been put on the top four clubs in particular. They now know that when Liverpool Football Club is in full flight, it is capable of winning anything. Manchester United, I think in particular are in the same position that we were in 1990. That was the year that fate decided to turn against us. Fate, I think is about to turn again and hopefully the title will come home but that will be decided by the 11 men that we worship week in and week out until May.

The games so far this season have been mixed, we were definitely outrun at Tottenham and Aston Villa and the Bolton game could have been another game lost but for the genius of Stevie G. This weekend we have Burnley who are an unknown entity and it will interesting to see how they play. Manchester United was beaten by them - that is a little worrying but I am sure that the lads will do extremely well.

The team now, I believe is beginning to jell and will soon be firing on all cylinders. If Stevie can play like he played during the England game last night, then the goals will come. Fernando is also fit and appears to have found his feet, again the goals will come. Our defence is I think the main problem, but if Rafa places his faith in Lucas and Masherano along with Kygriakos and lets them play together for the next set of say 6 games, I think we will all see a vast improvement. We also have players coming back from injury in Aurelio and Aquilani, who I believe Rafa, said a couple of days ago are about 4-5 weeks away from playing.

Is the title race over, I don't think so, if we can get a run going and continue to win the games, we definitely have a great chance of bring home the title. We could also have the last laugh on Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and the new outsiders Manchester City. At some point, unless a miracle happens they have either got to draw or lose games.

My dad always used to say he would not worry about the teams results until the Christmas Period was over, which I think is probably the right thing to do. Come the end of January, then yes, start the worrying process, but I cannot honestly see it coming to that. What we have to be aware of is too many draws - that is what I think took the title from us last year.

Is the season over in September - No it is in its infancy and we will have I am sure many drama's ahead of us before the end of May.

Like you I wish that everyone would calm down, it is definitely too early in the season for everyone to be panicking. Unfortunately we were not given the funds to purchase the high quality players we need so yes I hope that the youngsters are used to help get the title that we so desire. I personally want to see Jay Spearing play more games - I get the inkling that he is going to be good for LFC.

You are right when you say that Ryan Babel and Riera must stop moaning. I don't think they realise how detrimental it is to the morale of the team. We need confidence on the pitch not players wondering what the others are thinking. I don't think Babel will be sold in January - I believe that he will go out on loan. Riera is unfortunately going to have to knuckle down and get on with it.

I read in the paper this morning that Rafa has been told by Hicks and Gillett that there will be no transfer funds for the next two windows. That worries me intensely
