A winter of discontent is upon us: time to rebuild

No matter which way you slice it, Liverpool are having a dreadful season. How many false dawns can one team experience in a season only to see them dashed on the rocks by a poor performance the following week. Showing 'character' and looking for the positives in a loss or a draw simply isn't good enough.
The startling statistic is that Liverpool have only won 1 game in the last 10 and who knows if that's the end of our current decline. A Fiorentina win on Tuesday will be the end of our European season, no matter what our result at Debrecen, and then it's off to Everton who will be more than happy to compound our misery.
The problem I'm having is finding any positives from this season. In fact the list of reasons for Liverpool's dreadful campaign is so long, and has been debated endlessly on websites such as this one, that I really don't have to write any of them down as you know them as well as I do.
So let's face facts, the season is over.
The clubs Executives have to start laying out their strategy for next season, and beyond, and begin the rebuilding process as of the January transfer window. I would rather the club announce they accept responsibility for doing a bad job in building on the momentum from last season and get on with it. That will mean getting rid of players who are not committed to the club, who don't have the required talent and ultimately reconsider the tactical approaches that have led us to this unacceptable position. If that happened, I would have a great deal more respect for those running the club.
With the possibility of no Champions League money coming in the door this will be a tremendously difficult task. But wait, don't we have two millionaire owners? Time to put your hand in your pockets George & Tom. But of course if this were the only option they'd sell in a second. Perhaps the first positive step in developing a new strategy to rebuild the club is to say goodbye to these two dead weights.

I blame the 'In rafa we love' morons.
Really Ste? OK, you are the chairman - who do you get in to replace him after you sack him? And stay within the realm of reality, please. I'd love to hear your plausible suggestions.
All we can do now is hope to find a place at the top 4 at the end of the season. Tottenham and man city are on a roll.
barry, is 110% right with his article. the season is over, unless the teams above us start losing 8 out of every 10 games.......NOT. If i am going to blame anyone for the way thiings are on and off the the pitch regarding players, poor results etc....it has to be RAFA. he put this squad together and he took the gamble, that this squad is good enuff to win the EPL, after coming so close last season. and he has not learnet his lessons from last season regarding needing quality players to come in for players like torres, sg, mash, carra. rafa has not replaced quality players with quality players (or as good as the players he has sold) ie alonso, sami, arebola. rafa has now been found out, most fans at the start of the season had there concerns regarding who is going to replace torres, if/when he gets injured, same goes for sg, carra, no quality left back signed etc. I think rafa needs to start buliding the team for next season now. i hate to say it, but it might be good for the club to be out of the CL, not going to win the EPL, unless a miracle happens. goals for this season are trying to win the FA cup, finishing in the top four, so the club has got CL football next season and buying in Quality players in Jan 2010 and in the summer. i think rafa needs to buy a Quality left-back, centre-mid player and a striker in Jan 010. injuries are part and parcel of football and rafa can't keep using this as a excuse. he needs more Quality players in the squad(he needs to start shopping at harrods, not the £1 shop) and he needs to improve his management skills. he also needs to start playing players in there natural postions, to get the best out of them ie babel is not a winger, never is or will be. play him upfront or just behind torres. he will do the damage. if babel is sold, i hope wenger does not buy him, if he does buy him, babel will be a world beater at arsenal. rafa also needs a plan B,C. or D if plan A is not working. rafa needs to go from a 4231 system to a 442 or 4141,343..if chasing the game. i think rafa made a major mistake when he sold alonso to madrid for 30m. rafa should of asked for the following players plus cash ie negredo(striker) he would be the ideal player to play alongside torres or cover for him, sniejeider would of been the ideal player to unlock tight defences at home and provide cover for sg, van der vaart can play on both flanks and just off the striker. these 3 players are the kind of Quality players that are needed at the club and in the team. most of rafa"s signing have been poor. i think rafa should start playing a 4141 system at home ie riena, jonson, carra agger, insua, mash, yossi sg aqualini reira, torress, subs lucas, babel, kuyt skrtel, ngog. 1st 11 is strong, and there is quality on the bench. FAO.. RAFA.....any chance of me being apart of your management team?. don't shoot me, these are just my thoughts, views, ideas on the club, manager etc.
Waste no more time. Get Guus Hiddink before it's too late!
