Here We Go Again

Tomorrow is according to Rafa Benitez and Javier Mascherano the day that Liverpool Football Club's season starts all over again. I don't know how many times this season that I have heard that already. It has got to the point now where it is like a joke that has been heard over and over again and is no longer funny.
You see tomorrow is another one of those must win big games. The opposition team in question is Arsenal. I am sure that most of you can remember that fantastic 4-4 result that we had last season. I don't think I calmed down for at least two days after that, but tomorrow my temper and blood pressure may be up for an entirely different reason. I cannot honestly see us winning due to the lacklustre display from three quarters of our players.
We have already been told that Torres has been passed as fit and will most probably start. As Rafa said earlier today, with him and Stevie G back on the pitch our chances of winning have improved by one hundred per cent. Unfortunately that confirms to me that the press are right in saying that we rely on both of them far too much, but it should not be that way. A football team consists of eleven players and each one of them, the goalkeeper included should be capable of kicking a ball into the back of a net. Unfortunately due to the lack of confidence and the inability to play football that now seems to fester within the team it just is not happening.
The other main question of course is, will Aquilani play tomorrow? I very much doubt it to be honest. I can just see the excuse being touted again at the end of the match. It was too hard a game for him, will be the answer given to the press. No game should be too hard for any player because it is part and parcel of the career path they have chosen. I know Aquilani has returned from injury and I was to be honest impressed by what I saw on Wednesday evening, but he needs the games to get match fit. Training at Melwood and a few minutes here and a few minutes there is not going to do it. He has I believe asked Rafa to play him tomorrow but until the team sheet is issued at Melwood in the morning, he will be in the dark as much as we are. I certainly do feel that he will be an asset to the team but tomorrow I guess we will see Lucas in that particular role alongside Mascherano.
Mascherano has said that the team have now run out of excuses and that there must be a massive improvement in their game as they approach the crowded Christmas schedule. I will certainly agree with him on that point. Once that shirt is on their backs, they play for Liverpool Football Club and must give no less than one hundred and fifty percent on the pitch. He is one of the players whose confidence was at an all time low at the beginning of the season but thankfully watching him over the last few weeks you can see that it has returned. Lucas and Benayoun are also playing well along with Dirk Kuyt and Jamie Carragher who put their all into every game. Jamie has had his problems this season but when you have to cover for two players plus yourself, it must be hard to gather momentum. Stevie and Torres who have both had nasty injuries have both made their mark when on the pitch. Torres looked fit and raring to go on Wednesday and Stevie appears to getting back to his best. I just hope the fact that he has played carrying that injury does not impede his progress and he succumbs again. Glen Johnson has settled in well but I do feel he needs to pull his weight a lot more. Where we would be without Pepe Riena I do not know other than languishing alongside Portsmouth. The other players I guess are amongst the ones in the team that need to pull their socks up NOW and pull us out of the slump that we are experiencing at the moment.
The transfer window opens in just over a fortnight's time and I hope to see some movement amongst the dead wood in the team. In my opinion we should definitely get rid of Dossena, Voronin and Babel as they certainly do not show any desire to play for the club. Of course the big question is would Rafa, if able, spend the money wisely and get us the striker that we so desperately need. I know that we will probably have to rely on loan signings and again I hope that the choice of player is chosen with extreme care. The future of Liverpool Football Club is at stake now and unless the team do wake up and pull us out of the hole that their indifference has caused then we are in serious trouble and the problems facing us will be immense both on and off the pitch.
This time tomorrow I will I hope write about 'the start of our Season' and say what a wonderful game it was. My heart tells me that I know I will but commonsense tells me No. You see I think we have slid too far down the precipice to regain our position in the league that quickly. Arsenal has a young side and you can bet that Arsene Wenger puts out his best players because he along with every other manager in the Premiership is well aware of Liverpool Football Club and its failings at the moment. UNFORTUNATELY IT APPEARS THAT OUR MANAGER AND PLAYERS ARE NOT.

Well like you, I've been the eternal optimist...but my confidence has ebbed with every game. I've been a staunch fan of Rafa but I 'm not impressed when he apportions the blame elsewhere instead of owning up to a major part of it. If the players don't perform, then shake things up...bench them if you have to and put the players on that are hungry enough. Give the youngsters a chance...Where the heck is Nemeth, Pacheco....we need to see more of these young 'uns ! Arsene Wenger has put his faith in his younger players and they are doing well if not excellent..but give 'em time.
I pray we do well.. YNWA
Hi Mitchell perhaps that is our problem we are the eternal optimist. I will admit that my confidence is ebbing away very quickly now and I really think that something drastic has to be done. As you say Rafa seems to blame everyone but himself which is not good because eventually it will all turn around and hit him hard. That is one of the problems I think Mitchell as much as I hate his constant team changes definitely those that do not perform must be taken out of the team and those who will willing wear the red shirt put into it in their place. I also wish that he would give the youngsters a change. Nemeth is out on loan I believe and Pacheco possibly langishing in the reserves. We certainly do need to see more of the youngsters particularly the home grown ones. They are already aware of wearing the red shirt means. You are right and as much as I hate Arsenal Arsene Wenger is doing very well with his youngsters and I am sure that one day the rewards he will receive will be testament to that. I also pray that we win this afternoon Mitchell as you say YNWA
