Are Our Dreams About to Come True

As you all know over the last six months there has been story after story about new investment for Liverpool Football Club. Up until now most of it appears to have came from the world of dreams. Potential investors have come and gone without as much as a hint of interest in the club. Obviously the state of the books must have had something to do with it, and more importantly who would want to work alongside Tom Hicks and George Gillett, who are appear to have very little time for each other.
I don't know whether fate had anything to do with it, but after spending a good twenty minutes discussing the fortunes of Liverpool Football Club, I went online to start my daily read of the echo and the headline threw itself at me. I printed the article off and I think I must have been in a state of shock, because until a colleague bought it over to me, with the words, I guess this is yours, I had completely forgotten I had done it.
Christian Purslow confirmed today that the club could possibly have new investors installed with the next couple of months. He did not reveal who they were but said he was working on a list and the process of whittling them down to the final few was ongoing.
Having written several articles about Christian Purslow and spending many hours doing research, I do believe he will do the best for the club and choose someone who is not only willing to invest but also has the same love of football which we as Liverpool supporters experience.
What would the long term effects on the club be if this happened? They would become part owners with Tom Hicks and George Gillett - not an ideal situation or one that most Liverpool supporters want but it would be a move in the right direction. Ultimately they may even do what we all want and buy out Tom Hicks and George Gillett. I know which one I would prefer and hopefully look forward to my beloved club finally having a period of stability after the last few years.
The alarm bells started ringing a few weeks ago when I heard that the new stadium build was going to be restarted by the end of March/April . My mind went into overdrive and I waited patiently to see if anything was going to appear in the newspapers. It didn't, the transfer window opened and we were all told again that the signings would only be loan deals. That's typical, I thought, sell a couple of players and bring in someone from the bargain basement yet again. Rafa Benitez has chosen a player and as usual it has not been straight forward. In the summer we had the problems with Aquilani and his injuries, we now have Maxi Rodrigeux, or do we? He is having problems with a financial settlement from Athletico Madrid.
Then this morning there was news of a player called Chamakh signing for the club for a fee of £25 million. It appears that the club have already parted with £12 million calling it a signing on fee. I honestly don't know anything about the player but after the duds we have bought recently I just hope that he is worth every penny and will quickly prove it to us as and when he arrives.
I had a quick chat with a colleague of mine who also supports Liverpool and I said in jokey manner that perhaps a new investor was in the offering and Hicks and Gillett were trying to impress them. This second sense I have, drives me made sometimes but after reading the article I hope that it proves to be right.
As you all know over the weekend we had the farce that Tom Hicks Jnr created with his extremely rude email and following his resignation the club said that they would be more forthright with the fans which why I guess Christian Purslow spoke out this morning.
After speaking about the possible investment, he reiterated that any funds made during this transfer window would be given to Rafa Benitez to invest in players. That is good news providing it actually happens; obviously the money for Chamakh will be paid in instalments so hopefully there may be another couple of players on the horizon.
It was made public several days that Rafa Benitez would quite possibly be made to sell Torres and Stevie G if the players did not buck up their ideas and we made it back into the Champions League. It appears that he was angry at the way the press put the story across and Christian Purslow has come out and publicly said that this would never happen. He said that the idea of Liverpool being a selling club was totally wrong - It simply would not happen. The plan they have apparently is to try and improve the team by adding to it, not pulling it apart. I just hope that it is the right way to do it. I certainly don't want to see Stevie G and Torres leave Anfield but there are certainly many more players that could be moved on.
I hope and I pray that yes our dreams are about to come true. Since 2007 we have been pulled so many ways, heard so many fairy tales and put up with the club's dirty linen being thrown around in public. It is certainly about time things changed for the better.
