The January Snails.

I was going to write about the fact that thus far we haven't made any significant signings during the transfer window but then I heard Tom Hicks Jnr had resigned.

Well blow me. What a surprise.

The surprise being that he actually did fall on his sword after the abusive email he sent to a concerned Liverpool fan. The Guy was only voicing the concerns we all have regarding the "stewardship" of Hicks and Gillett and the response of Hicks Jnr I think sums up the attitude the Americans have had towards us from Day One.

We are seen as nothing more than idiots who supply our hard-earned cash at the turnstiles. We are required to turn up, support the team presumably, buy the merchandise but on no account are we supposed to have an opinion.

I thought the Premiership was supposed to have a "Fit and Proper Persons" test?

Yeah right.

The resignation of Hicks Jnr would, I assume, leave a vacancy on the board?

If Hicks and Gillett are serious about remaining as "stewards of this storied club" (Gillett's words during the take-over pretty much) then they could always replace Hicks Jnr by appointing a supporter to the board...?

Just a thought.

Probably more chance of David Moores hitching a lift off Dr.Who and going back a couple of years and selling to DIC instead. Mind you the extra £500 a share offered by the Americans would probably be a factor again...

Nope. Looks like we are stuck with them, the only good that may come out of this latest debacle is that hopefully many more fans will begin to harden their attitude to the owners.

At the end of last season we finished second and we all knew that the right money spent last summer could propel us towards our first Premiership title. Instead Alonso was sold, the money went to pay off the banks and our only prospect of a signing in January 2010 is a loan from Spain.

Out of the Champions League, out of the Carling Cup, out of the Premiership race we now face the prospect of trying to win the FA Cup or the European Thursday Night Ornamental Vase and Flagon, whilst trying to snatch fourth place in the league.

Marvellous.

Couple the antics of the owners with the cost of tickets and the cost of watching the game on TV with the obscene wages being paid. Factor in some very average players at the club and across the Premiership and it's frankly amazing that so many people still bother to watch the game at all.

Hicks Jnr's foul outburst may well be a blessing in disguise as it's highlighted the sheer contempt in which the owners hold their paying Customers.
