Roger and Out: Gerrard the natural choice for the England captaincy

Until Fabio Capello makes a decision it has yet to be seen if John Terry has rogered his way out of England captaincy. In any event it seems highly unlikely that Terry will be asked to quit the national team altogether, he's just too valuable. However, if the captaincy does go up for grabs then Steven Gerrard should be the automatic choice to replace him.
Gerrard is a natural leader. He has led Liverpool impeccably since 2003 (Wikipedia), he's the ultimate motivator that leads by example, has the experience required, is a game winner and is simply the best midfielder in the world.
I read that Piers Morgan feels than Wayne Rooney should be offered the job if Terry is asked to step down but I just don't see him having the temperament for the job that will be required in South Africa, even though he is having a phenomenal season. He's still too volatile, though he has matured over the past couple of seasons. Plus, I don't think Rooney would have any issues with Gerrard being the lead guy on the field as the two have a great relationship and respect for each other, according to Gerrard's biography.
It's going to be interesting to see how this situation plays out but if Gerrard does become the new England captain, and I hope he does, it will be a totally fitting reward for his flawless career and will make this years World Cup even more fascinating.

well said !!
besides JT , the only other logical leaders in the 3 lions squad are Stevie G & Lampard .
if Capello had to choose between them , i believe he won't loose any sleep over deciding Stevie G is the best option .
this is because of his current uncomparable leadership quality that he displays in RED !
one good die hard example of this is Istanbul '05 . He single handedly brought LFC back to life in that game not only with his headed goal but with his rallying call to his teamates and the crowd .
Let the living legend lead !!!
Even if John Terry hadnt been accused, for me Steven Gerrard is still first choice.hes a natural leader, born a winner wif the heart of a Lion!he never says die!look wat he did in Istanbul,n thats jus 1 of MANY instances.dnt know how JT cud b chosen over Stevie, beats me.giv him the Captaincy,Go Gerrard!!!
As a Liverpool fan, I would be very happy to see Gerrard quitting the national team altogether and focus on leading OUR team....
