Aurélio's return to Anfield highlights Hodgson's managerial savvy

Rafa Benitez's decision last May to let Fábio Aurélio leave Liverpool was both confounding and disappointing. Aurélio had been one of the teams class players but had been hampered last season through injury as a result of tearing his adductor muscle. He ended up only playing 21 games all year.
It was Hodgson's managerial savvy that promoted the return of Aurélio to Anfield. "I asked the club to find out whether Fábio had found a new club," Hodgson told the www.liverpoolfc.tv. "When we ascertained that he hadn't, we invited him back to Melwood so myself and my staff and the medical team could properly assess the player. We were very impressed and I am delighted we were able to re-sign Fábio."
Hodgson continues to impress with his insight on what is required to strengthen and improve Liverpool's squad having already signed Joe Cole and Danny Wilson with the Jovanovic deal having been arranged before Hodgson's arrival.
Under Hodgson stewardship things continue to look better and better at Liverpool. He's managed to attract, retain and now regain players that would not have been possible under Benitez.
Keep it up Roy!

Nobody complained when Aurelio was let go because he is ALWAYS injured. It won't seem so wise if Aurelio is out for 3 months after a few games, as usual.
He is a good player but his injury players make him unlikely to play very often.
Well, I surely am one of Rafa's doubters, but offering the man made of crisps, namely Fabio Aurélio, a pay-as-you-play contract was a good decision in my eyes. We need reliable players who can play more or less a full season. Fabio can't. He may break his hand cutting his nails or his shoulder pulling on our shirt and we may have to endure another season of hapless Insua, who's travelled with the squad to Germany, too. Left-back was one of the positions we needed to strengthen. Re-signing the player(s) who made it our weak point is not exactly savvy in my eyes.
This could be viewed as a sign that Roy will not have any further funds available until Masch is sold... I thing Aurelio will make a decent squad player, but if this now means we are no longer looking for a regular first team left-back (amongst other positions), then I am very concerned about our first team squad strength... this will possibly lead to players playing out of their more 'preferred' roles!! It didn't really work for Rafa so I can't see it being any better for Roy!! The Yanks need to invest!!
Mark my words, he'll be immense for us this season. I can feel it in me bones.
When reading posts ,I do understand that players like gerrard ,torres and Johnson should quit due to their last year injury .rubbish.Aurelio is a genuine good player with experience and talent .mark my word lfc will be in top this season.
Fabio refused to sign a pay as you play deal the decision to find a new employer was his, surprisingly no one as offered him a contract. Fabio is a class player but as we all know is unfortunate with injuries. yet another sign the Yanks will not spend on players. Purslow had the balls to sack a manager but not to help Roy buy a much needed Left back.
A brave and inspired resigning by Hodgson. It would have been easier for him to pursue other options, but Aurelio made good football and business sense. We bid nearly three million for Young, so that money should be added to buying another forward. If he stays fit he is a good full back. Stop being so bloody negative...its not our way!
I think you are kidding yourself if you think Hodgson signed Joe Cole and Danny Wilson. Wilson was announced before Rafa left and if SG and JC were trying to sell the club to Cole at the World Cup then we were already in for him before Hodgson came in. I have to admit this signing just looks like we dont have any money till we sell Masch, and even then I think we might get ã15M to spend at most. Roy is the man to work with that set up, but will that keep us competitive through the season and keep Torres happy?
James - just because we were interested in the players while Rafa was still here, that doesn't mean that the deals had been completed. Jovanovich had already signed for Rafa, but the other two deals were completed under Roy's stewardship. Besides, there were no links between us and Cole until shortly before he joined anyway...
In regards to Aurelio, I'm sure that he'll have been brought in to compete with another new signing for the LB spot, rather than being our automatic No.1 again. As such, I'd much rather take the risk on him for free, than spend money on backup players like Young or Konchesky
I really do not understand how selling a very promising young left back, and re-signing a 30 year old with shocking fitness issues "highlights his managerial savvy"!!!
I for one, am very UNIMPRESSED with our left-back situation. Insua should NEVER have been sold!!!
I thought that Insua was a decent backup with some potential, but an offer of ã5m+ for him HAS to be accepted.
That money can easily be reinvested on a better player that is better able to contribute NOW, while we are trying to compete during Torres & Gerrard's peak years, rather than somebody who MAY develop into a good LB in a few years. Both transfers make good sense to me
"an offer of ã5m+ for him HAS to be accepted.

Where are you going to find a world class LB for ã5 million? If it's that easy to reinvest the money on an established LB, why have we had to opt for re-signing Aurellio with all his injury problems. ... and before anyone pipes up, he has not played a full season since we signed him. It wasn't just last season, even before we signed him, he had his injury problems
Insua is nothing compares to f.Aurellio !!!!
Fabio is a quality player, saves the club money and I for one am delighted to see him return. Of course Hodgson will still buy another left back and Bridge or Figueroa are the highly respectable likely options. Roy is just being conscientious before spending the cash because there are limited resources and he has to wait for Mascherano's sale to know his full options.
This was never going to be a big spending summer from the Americans, we always knew this so I wish people would stop pretending otherwise. The club is up for sale and the position for keeping the star players is that positive new owners will be found soon and a more aggressive progression can follow.
This is a big season of transition and uncertainty for every aspect of Liverpool FC and the fans need to show their support and passion to Roy and the players to help ensure this club competes at a level this club is synonymous for.
