Liverpool Football Club Embraces It's Supporters

After a horrific period in its history, Liverpool Football Club appears to have become a steadier ship and has set several things in motion, on and off the pitch.

On the pitch, things are beginning to look a lot brighter now that the appointment of Kenny Dalglish has been made as interim manager. There are no wins as yet, but the football is better and can only improve. If this happens, the goals and the much wanted wins will come.

The January transfer window is three quarters of the way through , but although there are now signings as yet we do know that the funds are there if need be. For the first time in several years, we do not have to sit and watch knowing that no funds are available for the players that are desperately wanted.

Off the pitch of course is where you and I, the supporters of the club come in. John and Tom are keeping their promise of allowing supporters to become more involved in the club. Over the last few weeks a new supporter's website has been introduced called The Kop. This is not just for the ordinary supporter; it is for journalists and LFC employees as well. This of course means that the content will more varied and it is a way getting to know how the journalists in particular actually feel about the club. One of the most exciting parts is the blog section. You are allowed to write about the club and what is happening around in your way and having read some of the blogs I can only say that they are fascinating to read. I have also noticed that the better ones are posted onto the LFC TV website - so if you fancy having your 15 minutes of fame, take a chance, join and write something.

Earlier today, the club said that an announcement would be made and to ensure that the rumour mill did not get into full swing, they issued a statement saying that it would be nothing to do with transfers, the manager or indeed the appointment of a new CEO. We were all given a time to log onto LFCTV where an announcement would be made. As does happen sometimes, plans go wrong, and The Spirit of Shankly, who I suspect were told in advance, put a similar announcement up onto their website and sent out emails earlier than they perhaps should have. This of course alerted people to what the announcement was going to be.

The announcement came in due course and although I don't know how my fellow supporters feel, I certainly welcome the setting up a Supporters Committee. It is something I believe that has been long overdue and should not only be embraced by Liverpool Football Club but every club throughout the league system in this country.

The set up of this will consist of 17 democratically appointed supporters who will represent what the club feel are major stakeholder groups within the supporter base. There will be four meetings a year with senior club staff with John and Tom attending at least two of them. After each meeting the minutes will be available online within 48 hours - this of course is standard business practise but I commend the club for that.

The aims of the committee are as follows:

1. To establish a forum for supporters to communicate directly with the Club in a structured manner

2. To help the club better understand the issued that most affect the concerns of the supporters.

3. To give the Club the opportunity to explain the thinking behind major decisions - this is something that we have been crying out for, so it is a good move in the right direction.

4. To enable fans to play a key role in helping the club achieve the success it needs on and off the pitch. - This of course will open the dreams of many of the younger supporters.

5. To provide a greater degree of transparency about key issues that affect us the supporters - This again is something that we have been crying out for.

The club has also stated that it's main aim is to enhance the relationship between us the supporters and the club. This is to ensure that we do feel part of the wonderful FAMILY called Liverpool Football Club that we belong too.

If you are interested in becoming part of the committee, go onto the LFC TV website, read the article and follow the application instructions - it is not a long drawn out process, they just want to know why you feel you would be the right person for the position. It is open to supporters worldwide, but of course you do have to be able to get to Anfield.

it is though like any committee election process and once the closing date has been reached, in March a committee of 'experts' will sit down and review each one. The elected members will be announced on the club website on 17th March 2011. The Inaugural meeting will then take place on 15th May 2011. Like any committee there will be further elections every two years.

Hopefully, if we the supporters of what is classed the great club in English football can help to make this work, then I am sure that John and Tom will look at other ways of getting us involved. They have embraced themselves in our history, Linda has learnt the songs and Tom said in his interview how special a place Anfield was. To hear someone who has only been part of the Anfield set up for three months say that is very heart warming and I am sure heralds the start of a wonderful relationship between everyone.

I'll stop you there. Your headline makes no sense!
If you had said 'Liverpool Football Club Embraces Its Supporters', that would have made perfect sense.
It's denotes it is or it has.
Its denotes posession.
Pleb!

First line should read '
After an horrific period in its history'.
Pleb!
'but although there are now signings as yet' - no signings perhaps?

Well that's enough of that, if you can't be bothered to read your own stuff (to check for errors) then neither will I.
