Kenny to get a 2-year deal

I've been a strong advocate for Kenny Dalglish to become the "permanent" manager even before Rafa departed in the summer (click here to see May article). Who else was better qualified, had a better track record and knew how to get the club back to being run the Liverpool way? No one. Well, according to the several newspaper reports the great news is Dalglish becoming the permanent manager is going to become a reality within the next few weeks as negotiations between Dalglish, Henry and Werner have been taking place.

Dalglish is said to have wanted a 4-year deal with the owners offering 2-years with higher pay to compensate plus a hefty summer war chest for him to spend on quality players. As savvy businessmen both Henry and Warner were impressed with the way Kenny handled the £50m sale of Torres and finding quality replacements in Suarez and Carroll. I don't think many/any supporters have any doubts Kenny is the right man for the job, but I'm thinking the one guy who is dreading his permanent appointment happens to manage a team 30 miles across the M62.

With Kenny as permanent manager you have to feel there's only one way for Liverpool to go. This season's ambition still has to be a top 5 finish (get's us into Europe again if we don't win the Europa League) but with Kenny certain of his future this also means the team of Steve Clarke and Sammy Lee will surely become part of a permanent triumvirate. Comolli will also know who is going to be working with in the long-term and together he and Dalglish can plan and strategize which players need to be bought in the summer and who should be let go.

Understandably, I'm sure there will be statements from Liverpool for patience and not to expect too much over the next 12 months but I still can't help hoping that with Kenny in charge Liverpool will be aiming for more that just a top four finish next season.
