Rafa and His Continual Hints
This morning, I suspect is just like any other in the
Benitez household as they await the fallout due to yet another series of
interviews by Rafa
It had been made known yesterday by Guillem Balague that he
was interviewing his mate Rafa, for a series of interviews to be screened by
Sky Sports. The first of which was shown this morning - I have not seen it and
have no intention to do so for the simple reason, I am sick of hearing his
pleas for a return to his old position of manager at Liverpool Football Club.
Now Rafa as we all know, was sacked last summer, because our
position in the league table was not as it should have been having reached
second place the previous season. He had
also found himself in hot water for openly talking about the situation at club,
rather than keeping it in-house, which of course is the Liverpool Way.
These were the two main reasons why Rafa, was shown the door
by Martin Broughton and Christian Purslow, and these I believe led to both of
them deciding that he had become a liability during the sale process. He was
shown the door and his replacement as we all know was Roy Hodgson - but that is
another story.
Rafa went onto manage Inter Milan but having virtually destroyed
what had been a good standing in their league, he was sacked within six months
and his family made their way back to the Wirral, where he has a property.
Since that time, rather than rest on his laurels and enjoy
what free time he has, as soon as a reporter or a television camera has
appeared his has jumped at the chance to do an interview. That's fine to a certain degree but in every
interview he has indicated that he wants to manage Liverpool again one day and
that he is the only man who can get them back to where they belong.
I have nothing against Rafa but, he has had his time and to
do the latest one, while technically there is a managerial vacancy at the club
is extremely bad timing. He still has a very
large following who would love to see him back and knowing this, I suppose is
one of the things that urges him on.
Is Rafa trying to undermine Kenny, that is a question that I
simply cannot answer, but to do so would be more damaging for the club than, I
believe Rafa realises. Kenny has, as we
all know got the club back onto a stable footing again, after the problems of
the last three years and needs to be allowed to continue. He certainly does not need a former manager,
coming out every other week and talking about his undying love for the club he
once managed.
What Rafa needs to
realise is, that if he really wants to come back to the premiership, there will
be at least three jobs going come the summer.
He needs to get his c.v. up to date and be ready to apply for them. If he is waiting for the Liverpool job, then
unless he knows something that most of us do not, he has a very long wait. Oh
wait, perhaps he knows already that they will not allow him to waste what money
there is available on players that simply are not good enough.
On another level, he could always be Andy Grays replacement
on Sky Sports - Now that would be fun to watch.

Why you think Rafa is trying to undermine is daft and why you also think he deserved to be sacked is just as daft, Benitez was the best manager we had since Kenny's first stint in charge and lets not forget Kenny has a long way to go what if we fall flat next year what happens then, I also think Rafa finishing seventh for one season was more to do with the owners than the man himself and if Kenny do not make it their is no one I'd trust more than Rafa Benitez.
Nevermind the vocal minority In Rafa we love lemmings, we already have a Manager, and he will sign his new contract in the summer.
Look at what Rafa done to Inter, took the European Champions and turned them into dross inside of 4-5 months.
do you not know rafa yet ? he is clever, he's just applied for the city job and no one can see it !!
What's with all the Rafa bashing. He's said he loves our club, why jump on his back. He was the last manager to win the CL for Liverpool, I think he deserves a bit more respect, allowed to do whatever media he wants and spread the good word about our club. Clearly the owners were the issue last time, not him. Surely if a top manager like him is praising the club, it can only help when trying to entice players.
Its wrong for rafa to talk about the lfc job while kennys in charge, for me rafa had his time, 6 years in charge is plenty of time to show what you can do and quite frankly by our standards he was well short. Just two trophies in 6 years, houllier won 4 trophies in 5 years, so who was the better manager? Whatever the problems with h and g, if things were so bad then why did rafa sign a new contract in 09? Sadly rafa will fade away as a top manager and hes only got himself to blame.
what a joke this article is....why not just come out and tell us how much you hate rafa (for whatever reason)???
if you cared to actually read/watch the interviews that you've chosen to write a slag piece about, you'd realize that 1) every time he's mentioned managing liverpool it was because he was asked directly if he would ever come back; and 2) he's always said that we are in a good place with kenny in charge, and even though he'd be honored to come back, now is not the time....
you're too busy being bitter about the fact that rafa managed the team to one bad year out of six, with most of that under the stewardship of a pair of blokes that shankly and paisley would've struggled to be successful under (i guarantee shanks wouldn't have put up with half the bollocking rafa got off those two; he turned in resignations for far less affront).
you talk about The Liverpool Way and how rafa broke it, but can't seem to understand that the reason so many fans were informed enough to create the campaign that contributed to their departure, was that rafa was willing (at his expense, i believe) to shed light on the cancerous activities in the club. he's always said he spoke only to defend the club, and foor me he did as much or mroe than many in getting us to where we are now with Henry and FSG....
....and to talk about wasted money on poor players is an ignorant disregard for the fact that many of those poor players (pennant, kromkamp, zenden, voronin) were LAST OPTIONS after the club bottled getting the preferred choices (simao, dani alves, david silva, jovetic)....
have a look at yourself mate, rafa deserves better than this tripe from LFC fans...
Someone above hit the nail on the head. I think he was doing two things.
1. Applying to the Manchester City Job.
2. Telling LFC he loves the club his problem was the owners. I think he also implied that if LFC called for him he would leave the club he was at for LFC I see no problem there.
Just a quick question though. I have heard a lot slating the League in general lately. I have had heard lots of complaints about English weather, food, blah blah blah,if this is the case does every top quality manager who has come here and leaves, cannot stop talking about coming back? Rafa, Jo$e, Pep (never hear but clamors about the league) and well we all know a Scott and Frenchman that have had offers from every team under the sun. They were smarter and stayed know the others are racing back. I just find this very interesting. To prove you are a world-class manager you have to play and win in England. I damn sure wish the players that keep jetting off to Spain and elsewhere. Take the lead from older and wiser heads.
Yes i would love to see him if King ...nut right now Kign is Doing Great!
Love u RAFA!
sorry about the grammar and misuse of words (know-now) (hear-here) and probably others I was trying dragon (voice recognition) smart app on phone
Why is it that you stupid stupid juvenile lemmings fall on every word Rafa utters, even without reading or listening to them as you yourself admit. I thought this irrational hatred of Rafa mainly was by juvenile mancs or bitters who rightly feared him, but there seems to be some retarded juvenile kids among LFC supporters as well! Sad sad days indeed.
rafa please stay far far from Melwood and Anfield. You were a disgrace for our club, you lived on your pillow after Istanbul 2005 won by Houllier's men. We don't want other ElZhar Riera Josemi Maxi Morientes Pellegrino Paletta Cavalieri Plessis Nunez and similar rubbish. Now we get a fantastic manager and we are an english team again. InterMilan owner was not to stupid as ours and sacked you after a few months before you totally destroy the club. Go back to Spain and steal you great wages ELSEWHERE.
Youve got it in one. Couldnt have put it beettr.
