Why Luis Suarez is my player of the month
There's a new entry in the Kop charts, and the fans just can't seem to get enough.
From Depeche Mode to sublime pieces of skill, Liverpool's new entry at number 7 has made an immediate impact at Anfield and has already won over fans with his selfless performances over the past month.
A goal on his debut against Stoke City, added to a string of man of the match performances, including one against Manchester United where he played a big part in all three of Dirk Kuyt's goals, has already cemented his place in the Kop's affections. Fernando Torres and his struggles at Chelsea are a thing of the past. Luis Suarez is the here and now as far as fans are concerned.
While it is quite easy to get carried away with new signings and their immediate impact, you get the feeling that everytime he steps on to the pitch, Suarez is about to do something special. His recent goal at Sunderland was evident of this feeling. As soon as he received the ball, 'El Pistolero' somehow managed to smash the ball home from an acute angle, much to the delight of the travelling fans behind the goal.
Although Suarez is tasked with wearing one of the most iconic shirts in the club's history, he shows no sign of a burden that was too much for some. For too long it is fair to argue that Liverpool haven't been blessed with a number 7 worthy of its predecessors which include Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, and of course, current manager 'King' Kenny Dalglish.
Should the man from Salto continue his rich vein of form, then the reds will have got their money's worth from a player who may play a crucial role in helping the reds to challenge for the top honours in the coming years. Not only does Suarez score goals, he creates them. As already witnessed, he can provide assists, and take free kicks that test goalkeepers from long range.
Another component to the great potential is Andy Carroll. If Suarez can form what is already a frightening strike partnership on paper, then Liverpool will have a greater chance of succeeding where they have failed all too often in recent history. And when he scores, the Kop will surely go wild.
