THE tight surroundings may have been different and the segregation a bit more relaxed, but there was no mistaking that the crowd at Marine FC's Arriva Stadium witnessed a typical Merseyside derby last night.
The left-back position at Liverpool has been a problem ever since John-Arne Riise left the club in 2008. Emiliano Insua, Fabio Aurelio and other alternatives have been tried but none have filled the void.
Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli are seeking a new left-back to strengthen the defence for the coming season and many players have been linked with the club. Insua has now returned after a year-long loan to Turkish club Galatasaray but may find himself as back-up to a new arrival. Fabio Aurelio has had many injury problems during his Liverpool career, and although the Brazilian has plenty of quality, it is unlikely he will be given much playing time. Kenny Dalglish gave Glen Johnson a go at left-back last season and even brought through youngster Jack Robinson for a few games but finding a new left-back will be the priority for Dalglish now.
