As supporters hurried to get out of Block 205 after the final whistle last night, there was a constant grumbling amongst the departing Kopites. Spirits were unsurprisingly not high, as the reality of being in Europe's secondary competition really hit home after an uninspiring narrow victory over Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni.

'Aquilani's not worth £20 million', 'one up front against ten defenders is ridiculous' and 'Pacheco is better than N'gog' were all rash yet understandable analysis of the frustrated faithful, but one common theme stood out more than the others - the price people had paid to watch that game.

The price of watching football at the top level is well documented to be an expensive hobby, and paying £32.00 to watch Liverpool play a team of virtual unknowns does seem a bit steep, but is it too much?

I HAVE never heard of Ron Vlaar before today, but he ripped one in from his own half in a match between Feyenoord and Harkemase Boys - pick that out!

Xabi Alonso may achieve alot of things playing for the Madrid Globetrotters, but I bet he won't score twice from inside his own half like he did for Liverpool, and like my new hero does above.

Real Madrid target Xabi Alonso made a brief appearance as a strong Liverpool team suffered a heavy defeat in Spain.

Midfielder Alonso came off the bench with six minutes remaining as Espanyol officially opened their new stadium, and reports in Spain indicate it may be his final appearance for Liverpool.

Luis Garcia - a namesake of the former Liverpool player - put Mauricio Pochettino's side ahead after 19 minutes and former Chelsea reserve Ben Sahar scored a second-half double to give Espanyol an impressive win.

NEWS that Xabi Alonso has handed in a written transfer request is a major disappointment to Liverpool fans but little surprise.
It had become increasingly clear throughout the summer's saga that the 27-year-old had his heart set on a move to Real Madrid.
He had consistently refused to reveal his intentions but his silence spoke volumes about where he saw his future.

ALVARO Arbeloa has passed his medical with Real Madrid, the Spanish giants have confirmed.

Arbeloa successfully completed various medical tests at the Hospital Sanitas La Moraleja in the Spanish capital today as the 26-year-old defender puts the finishing touches on his £3.5million move from Liverpool.
