HAVING claimed he is being blamed for everything from rising petrol prices to global warming, Rafa Benitez will know full well where the responsibility for Liverpool's narrow win over Sunderland lies.
Typically, it is with Fernando Torres, a match-winner par excellence who has an extraordinary ability to turn base metal into solid gold.
On Saturday, the Spanish striker was as far away from his magical best as he has probably ever been since moving to Anfield last summer as his usually incisive dribbles came to nothing, his passing was off target and his toils against a well-organised Sunderland defence seemed futile.

ON Great Britain's most successful day at an Olympic games for 100 years it was a man who had already picked up his winner's medal on international duty this summer who inspired Liverpool to victory in their Premier League opener.
Team GB picked up four gold medals in Beijing on Saturday and repeated the feat yesterday in a hugely successful weekend.
But as much as Liverpool's supporters will be pleased to hear of our athletes' victories in the Far East they are ultimately infinitely more engrossed in the continuing rising star of their own golden boy Fernando Torres.

A BALL hasn't been kicked in anger on the domestic scene yet - but already there are one or two little whispers in corners as to whether Robbie Keane actually can hit it off with Fernando Torres after all.

Sunderland v Liverpool
To be played at Stadium of Light on Saturday, August 16, kick-off 5.30pm
LIVERPOOL have been punished for their supporters standing up during away games.
Their ticket allocation for the away game with Sunderland on the opening day of the season has been reduced to 600 fewer than the north east club normally allow for visiting fans.
And Liverpool have urged their fans to say in their seats at the Stadium of Light on August 16 to avoid further reductions at other grounds.
I THINK Liverpool's opening game up at Sunderland could suit Rafael Benitez's side.
It looks like there will be no Kenwyne Jones for the hosts as he picked up a nasty injury in Trinidad & Tobago's friendly with England and although Sunderland seem to have plenty of cash burning a hole in Roy Keane's pockets it's unlikely that he'll know his best team for the opener if he brings in a few new faces.
It's a good fixture for Liverpool as the pressure will be off and Sunderland will be trying to win rather than looking at their own points tally so early in the campaign.
