YOU can't ask for any more from a team than to take six points from their first two games of the season and that is exactly what Liverpool have done.

Sunderland and Middlesbrough are going to give a lot of teams problems this season but, despite being nowhere near their best, Liverpool have somehow managed to come up with a way to beat both of them.

In this respect, you can't ask any more of Rafa Benitez and his players. They have done just what we all hoped they would do in terms of getting off to a good start.

Home form is so vital

A quick look back at some of our home results emphasises why a title challenge failed to materialise last season. Birmingham City, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Wigan all came away from Anfield with a draw - that's eight points dropped in what many would consider "home bankers" in a season that saw us finish 11 points off the top. Therefore, it was absolutely vital we got our home campaign off to a winning start against a Boro side who will surprise a few people this season, and what a way to clinch it!

Liverpool 2 Middlesbrough 1

STEVEN GERRARD scored a spectacular injury-time winner as Liverpool secured an unlikely Premier League victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.

Rafael Benitez's side were on their way to a deserved defeat as they trailed to Mido's 70th-minute goal with four minutes remaining.

MIDDLESBROUGH. Dictionary definition - a yardstick of mid-table mediocrity and Premier League predictability.

At least that's if you take David Gold seriously - and let's face it, not many do with that beard (pictured right).

The Birmingham City chairman's assertion that he would rather have his club's yo-yo existence rather than being "like Middlesbrough" didn't go down to well with Keith Lamb, chief executive at the Riverside.

FERNANDO TORRES was absolutely fantastic against Middlesbrough on Saturday and I think we can say without any shadow of a doubt that he is one of the very best strikers around.

If you look at the Premiership. The likes of Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Emmanuel Adebayor and Cristiano Ronaldo are all fantastic players in their own right but in terms of being a threat in front of goal I don't think there is anyone better than Torres at the moment.
