Javier, you've only got yourself to blame
JAVIER MASCHERANO can't blame anyone but himself for his sending off.
If you've already been booked then you can't afford to get involved with the referee - but he did.
I do have some sympathy for Mascherano because he was trying to stick up for his mate after Fernando Torres came in for a bit of rough treatment from Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes.
But maybe he would have been better to leave it to one of the other players who hadn't already been booked to speak with the referee.
It was bad enough going down to 10 men against Manchester United when already a goal down, but Liverpool will also have to do without Mascherano's services for the derby which is a big blow.
He has been one of Liverpool's best players and the way he plays the game is perfectly suited to derby matches. Now it is up to whoever replaces him to come in and do just as good a job.
It could be that Lucas is given the job of replacing him. If he is he has to look to play so well that it is difficult to leave him out even when Mascherano returns.
