Dream of fans owning Anfield can become a reality
SPORTS minister Andy Burnham was the guest speaker at the relaunch of Share Liverpool on Wednesday and I have to say I was tremendously impressed by him.
Politicians are sometimes accused of being out of touch with the public, but Andy turned up and spoke really well about the issues that are concerning Liverpool fans and supporters of so many other clubs.
The goal is for Liverpool fans to be able to own our own club. We know it's a tall order and it will take a hell of a lot of hard work and effort to get there, but it is achievable as long as we believe in it.
We've already had a lot of support from a lot of good people, but I think there are others out there who should be doing more to help.
The ones I'm thinking of in particular are those former Liverpool shareholders who made a hell of a lot of money when they sold out to the current owners.
I've heard talk that some of them are hurting and regret what they've done, but if that is the case then they should join us in trying to put it right.
Mistakes can be put right, but only if the will is there, and I would hope that anyone who feels that they may have let the club down will come on board with what we are trying to do.
There is no reason why supporters cannot come together and own the club they love, and that's not just the case for Liverpool. It could happen at any club in the country.
No-one loves their own club more than the fans and that makes them perfect owners.
I've got tremendous respect for Andy Burnham for the way he conducted himself on Wednesday night and for backing our cause.
Now I just hope others will do the same, because if we all work together we really can make a difference.
