Inter Milan won't be a problem for Liverpool
JUST about everyone in the country seems to be writing Liverpool off ahead of tonight's game against Inter Milan, but I've got a feeling they could get the result they so desperately need.
I'm not kidding myself. I know what a good side Inter are. They are the Italian champions and look set to win the title again this season, and you have to be a very good side to win it twice on the run.
The team is packed with quality. Everyone knows about Ibrahimovic, Crespo and Vieira, but there are also the likes of Javier Zanetti, Ivan Cordoba and Luis Jiminez, who people in this country may not know too much about but who are very good players.
But Liverpool are capable of beating them. Last season they took on Barcelona, who were the favourites to win the Champions League, and beat them in their own back yard.
A couple of seasons before that they were the underdogs when they met Juventus, but Liverpool knocked them out as well.
Rafa Benitez is a top-class manager on the European scene and he will know exactly what is needed to get a result tonight, and by the time the game kicks off every one of his players will be well drilled about what they need to do.
And something I'm sure he will be drumming into his players is that no matter how well Inter are doing in their domestic league, they have done nowhere near as well as Liverpool have in Europe in recent years.
Like AC Milan, Liverpool have a knack of playing in Europe which means they can put their problems at home to one side and deliver brilliant performances against continental opposition.
They are going to have to do that again tonight because the European Cup is now the only trophy available to them this season.
But if they go after Inter like they went after Juventus in 2005 I'm confident they can knock the Italians out of their stride and get a good result to take to the San Siro in three weeks time.
