Reds fans show real class in the FA Cup
THERE'S no getting round the fact that Liverpool were painfully poor on Saturday.
But there were winners - and not just the Havant & Waterlooville heroes.
The Liverpool fans deserved the utmost credit for the way they supported the non-league side.
If you look around the ground near the end of any Premier League fixture, you'll normally see quite a few empty seats as fans make an early dart to avoid the rush.
That wasn't the case on Saturday.
Most fans stayed behind to pay tribute to the non-league team and the Reds' supporters deserve the utmost credit.
They applauded the team onto the pitch, applauded them off at the end and even offered gracious applause when Havant opened the scoring.
They were winners, along with the Havant players.
Actually I was a winner, too, although I wasn't exactly thrilled about the idea.
Every home game this season I've backed the Reds to win after drawing at half-time. It's come in loads of times, and usually at 7/2.
When I got to the ground on Saturday the bookies were offering 6/1 this time, but I didn't for a second expect it to happen.
But because I've done it every game this season I stuck with it out of habit.
I didn't expect to win, and I wasn't alone.
My lad fancied us to win 6-1 or 7-1, so stuck a pound on each of the Havant strikers to score first!
Richard Pacquette obliged at 25/1 - although neither of us were particularly impressed.
It's difficult to explain why Liverpool looked so poor in the first half, other than to say that games like that sum up the magic of the FA Cup.
Games like Saturday's are exactly why it is the most famous domestic Cup competition in the world and why we love it so much.
If we get through to Wembley in May we can look back fondly on this match and smile.
As it is, there wasn't much to smile about . . . not even 25/1 first goalscorer bets!
