Yossi Benayoun has broken his silence and revealed the reason why he left Liverpool. Rafa Benitez.

Benayoun was probably one of Liverpool's most versatile, hard working, utility players over the last few seasons and to hear that Benitez did nothing but undermine his confidence is unforgivable.

"If I played well, I never felt he gave me credit," Benayoun told the News of the World. "When I scored, I still expected to be out of the team the next game. On two occasions early last season, against Fulham and Lyon, the fans booed when I was subbed. They thought I was playing well but Benítez told me he was surprised the fans booed because I was not good enough.

"He tried to destroy my confidence. You can't treat a player like this and expect him to be happy."

Before the final game of the season Benítez told Benayoun "You will not be in the squad for this game. Thank you for your three years of service, now you can call your agent to do a deal with another club" hence the move to Chelsea.

With every story like this there is usually another side to the argument, however, when you look at what happened to Xabi Alonso, Robbie Keane and Albert Reira, Benayoun's explanation seems extremely credible. Even Steven Gerrard, in his autobiography, made it clear Benitez would never compliment a player on his performance no matter how outstanding.

I was one of those Liverpool supporters who felt Rafa's time was up at Anfield. This only reinforces the Board made exactly the right decision.

I'm surprised Liverpool fans can be shocked by this? I'm a Spurs fan and under Ramos it became obvious that the dressing room was lost by the start of his first full season.

Perhaps with hindsight we should have seen it with the slide in our league performances after the Carling Cup victory over the Chavs.

It's a credit to Liverpool's strength as a historic club, it's depth in tradition and powerful player characters that maintained the Fat Waiter at the club for as long as he was there.

There's very few clubs who would have backed a manager with no interpersonal skills and an ego & arrogance as bad as Benitez has.

I have no doubt that given the same support and belief, even without the resources Roy will give ur club much more than Benitez especially in the league!

Good luck in the next season!
