Latest from Liverpool Banter...

On Saturday 4th September 2010 I had the pleasure to be amongst the 35,682 supporters who were at Anfield to pay their own tributes to one of Liverpool Football Clubs finest Servants.
Jamie who in his youth had supported Everton, moved across Stanley Park and worked his way up through the academy ranks before making his first team debut in 1997. He has from that day to this always given his all for the club and is the perfect example for all the young players to follow.
Having now been at Liverpool for 13 years, Jamie was entitled to a testimonial. This is normally a match where all the proceeds are given to the player, to ensure that he is set up for the day when the boots are finally hung up for good. Jamie though being Jamie, said in his usual down to earth manner, that all the proceeds would be going to his 23 Foundation. This is a charity set up to help the disadvantaged children of Merseyside. His target was to raise £1 million and with a gala dinner arranged for the same evening, it was hopeful that this would be reached.

Steven Gerrard wants more of the same for Euro 2012 qualifiers as England beat Bulgaria 4-0
STEVEN GERRARD today demanded more of the same after England got their bid to qualify for Euro 2012 off to the perfect start.

Speaking to fans before, during and after the West Brom game last Sunday, I was amazed at the amount of people who weren't planning on going to Jamie Carragher's testimonial match tomorrow. 'Too far to travel' or 'can't really afford it' were the common answers when I asked why, but a few just said 'I can't be bothered', which is quite shocking.
Can't be bothered? For Jamie Carragher? When has he not been bothered for you as a Liverpool supporter? Not once, never. Carragher is the greatest professional Liverpool have had in the Premier League years. A player who started as a goal (singular) scoring midfielder and ended up as an ultra consistent centre half (via right and left back) who will be remembered and won't look out of place, in the same bracket as Yeats, Smith, Hughes Thompson and Hansen.
