JOHN ALDRIDGE: Raul can rule as Liverpool FC begin to look more confident
WITHOUT a doubt, the win against Wolves on Saturday was our best display in a long time. Against the Wanderers you've got to show fighting spirit which Mick McCarthy's sides always epitomises.
Liverpool dug in early on and competed well all over the field.
Raul Meireles was outstanding, and while we always knew he was a good player, it's now when that is really starting to show.
It looks so much more positive with the likes of the Portuguese lad supplying the front men as he did at Molineux.
The role he played on Saturday, playing higher up the park, definitely suited him.
He adapted well and his understanding with Poulsen and Lucas was good to see.
Meireles' vision is excellent, he reminds me of a typical Liverpool player of the past.
His form is an example of the players giving Kenny the ideal reaction since he has taken over.
Meireles is a lot like Steven Gerrard, he can play well in both positions, either just behind the front man or a bit deeper.
He's got a cracking shot on him, and the strike against Everton has given him a lot of confidence.
The goal at Wolves will be one of the best goals we'll see all season.
And a lot of credit goes to him for the opener when he teed up Torres to score.
Steven Gerrard comes back into the equation tomorrow, and he obviously needs to play, so it will be interesting how the two of them work together and where they are stationed when Kenny picks his line up.
I suspect they'll keep Meireles where he was against Wolves, put Stevie a little further back so he can get the ball rolling, and with his engine he can get higher up the pitch and be an important part of the attack.
Lucas can be the sitter in midfield and with Carragher soon back from injury and one or two new signings, this can be the start of a good run for the lads.
Meireles seems to be bringing the best out of Fernando Torres too.
The Spaniard has been booked three games on the bounce and it's a sign he's come to life, I can see a big difference in his game.
Kenny's got into his head mentally and he's not holding back now.
And how great is it to see Torres score a couple of tap-ins?As a striker myself, I remember that you live by those type of goals.
We're used to seeing him banging goals into the top corner, but, in a way, it's better for Liverpool that he starts getting the more bread and butter strikes.
All round, there's a good feeling about the Reds now.
What they're doing in training, they are putting that out on the pitch.
They looked sharper in the tackle on Saturday and showed more appetite for the competitiveness.
Charlie Adam could be a household name for Liverpool
CHARLIE Adam has turned into one of the best midfielders in the Premiership.
He's a large part of why Blackpool are where they are in the league.
At 25, that's a great age, the same as when I went to Liverpool, and it means that if he comes to Anfield, they'll get half a decade from him.
He could be a Gary McAllister type for the Reds, providing that bit of quality, adding to what we've already got in midfield.
Liverpool always demand players who can pass the ball well, and he's definitely one of them.
If Adam played for one of the Big Four he'd be worth £10m, so if we can get him for around £6m it could be a very good addition.
But I hope any further move for Adam, doesn't mean we neglect other areas of the squad where we require improvement.
A left-back and a winger are still key areas where we need an injection in the side.
With Carra coming back from injury soon, we can perhaps wait until the summer before we invest at the centre of our defence.
New signings give a club a big lift. Luis Suarez would be a huge boost to everyone and the fans.
But we need to be mindful that shifting players who are no longer wanted can be tricky in the January transfer window.
I like it when I hear Kenny saying how people won't hear signings being touted around before they happen.
And it's heartening that we're no longer looking to bring some unheard of bloke with a name like Pedro Da Gaspa, but players we're associated with here at home like Stephen Warnock and Charlie Adam.
New Liverpool supporters scheme is a great gesture from Henry and Werner
THE recently announced Liverpool supporters scheme is a breath of fresh air.
Hicks and Gillett kept fans at arms length, but Henry and Werner are already endearing themselves to supporters.
Fans are an integral part of this club and this is a really nice gesture from the Americans.
It can only be of benefit to everyone and will see those at the top of the cub working with those who follow the Reds home and away.
Any input a supporter can give to how his club works just improves the relationship with the man on the street, and let's hope this is a sign of new openness on the part of Fenway Sports Group.
Sian Massey had the last laugh in the Andy Gray Richard Keys sexism debate
ANDY GRAY and Richard Keys' comments have hit the headlines on the whole sexism debate.
One thing's for sure, that was a brilliant decision by the female linesman Sian Massey when she rightly kept her flag down for Liverpool's first goal at Molineux.
I've seen so many poor male referees in my time, so women won't be any worse.
Sian made Sky look a bit silly, as she had a decent game.
In this day and age, nobody can stop women making progress in whatever they want to do.
And with male refs responsible for so many inconsistencies, it shouldn't be just the domain of the blokes.
