A Bad Day in The Midlands
This afternoon Liverpool faced West Bromwich Albion in what
had become the most talked about match of the week. Every article that I read
seemed to contain extracts from interviews given by Roy about how us the
supporters treated him during his tenure at the club. He also said that as
manager of West Brom he would be looking to win the game.
So what did Liverpool do to ensure that this would not
happen? The answer to that is very
little, although for the first twenty minutes it appeared they were on top. Suddenly the injury jinx that surrounds Agger,
happened again and he was replaced by Kyriakos who has become a liability. Kenny who had already changed the team's
formation slightly when Glen Johnson went down earlier with a hamstring problem
was forced to do so again.
Liverpool was now in disarray and West Brom, brought the
services of their twelfth man into play. Who is this twelfth man you ask
although I suspect most of you know the answer already. Today he was of course, Martin Atkinson who
decided he would award decisions against Liverpool rather than give them
anything. The amount of times Andy
Carroll was brought down by West Brom with no action taken was ridiculous. He did protest a couple of times but in end,
he was the one that ended up with the yellow card. Watching him for several minutes you could
see that his temper was beginning to boil over, which of course is what West
Brom wanted because it meant he would have been sent off. Thankfully though he made it to half time and
the teams went into the dressing room at 0-0.
The second half immediately showed that Kenny has a massive
rebuilding programme on his hands come the summer. The team that emerged from the tunnel had
decided to go home early. West Brom was
immediately on top and at that point gave the impression they were going to
win. Little did we know at that point,
that is exactly what would happen but then sometimes several events can set
these things off.
The game itself had become a horror story to watch and if it
had been for Pepe Reina, I dread to think what the final score could have been.
Balls were flying into his goal area like nobody's business and nobody seemed
interested enough to stop them. Suddenly
though Liverpool got a break and with the ball finally down the other end of
the pitch, Skrtel's head found the ball and it went into the back of the net.
You would have thought that this would wake up the team and
urge them on to score the second, but it all it did was make them even more
complacent and brought the actions of Mr Liability into play. Kyriakos did what he appears to do best at
the moment and managed to go into a tackle which according to Mr Atkinson was
inside the area, so a penalty was rewarded.
Well I am sorry but having watched the replay several times, I am pretty
certain the tackle was outside the box and if anything should have been a free
kick. This of course brought the score
level and it now needed a miracle for the one of the teams to score the winner.
It happened and it was partially down to Kyriakos again.
There was a bit of a fracas in the box and Pepe who actually came out retrieve
the ball, found himself the victim of Mr Atkinson's love of West Brom when a
penalty was awarded against him. West
Brom scored and as late as it was Liverpool finally woke up and decided to
mount a charge on the goalmouth.
Miereles, Skrtel and Suarez had a couple of tries but the goals would
not come.
To try and help the situation, three minutes from the end,
Kenny took off a very tired Dirk Kuyt and substituted him with Joe Cole. Now I am sorry, but Ngog would have been the
better choice for the simple reason whatever the situation you do not rely on
someone who has lost his appetite for the game.
It finished with West Brom getting the honours through
extremely bad refereeing by Martin Atkinson and his linesmen. Our luck I think
had run out from the moment Roy started rubbing his face. Bad Memories were quickly brought into play
and the team folded. The Injuries to
Glen and Daniel did not help either.
Kenny being Kenny in his post- match interview was as polite
as ever. When asked about the referring
decisions, he simply said perhaps at the beginning of season it was agreed that
the linesman and the referee could argue a point rather than agree. He also said that he felt someone needs to
tell him for the simple reason he was not the manager then. Now Kenny did not say anything really about
the team's performance except to say that the team put in a lot of hard work. I guess when they return to Melwood whether
it is tomorrow or Monday, they will feel the full force of his anger.
Kenny also spoke about the teams injuries saying that Glen
appears to have tweaked a hamstring and Daniel has damaged a tendon behind his
knee. It was also at this point he
brought every one up to date on stevie explaining that his absence was down to
a further injury to his groin which he sustained in training yesterday.
As our injury list appears to be in free fall, it set me
thinking again about as to why there are so many? This I cannot answer at the
moment but will do so in another blog this week

Bring back Rafa.
What a pisspoor analysis resulting in the conclusion we lost the game due to Kyrgiakos. Not a word to mention the pathetic performance of Lucas, Spearing's running around like a headless chicken, or Meireles completeing every 20th pass. Not a word the Baggies completely and utterly dominated the midfield from the 5th to 93rd minute no thanks to our worthless midfield.
Had Roy still been in charge he would've taken the stick. When he isn't around and Kenny's beyond criticism (for some curious reason) there's always the single player to single out for criticism. Liverpool fans can hardly brace themselves with being the most knowledgeable and honest fans in the world judging by these hilarous blogs with their pseudoanalysis.
We lost mainly because is extremly mediocre. Why? Ask your hero Rafa who got 6 years and zillions of pounds to build it.
