Down at the Lane

After our tremendous performance over Chelsea on Sunday and the just as important 3 points Wednesday night against Pompey, we now face a rejuvenated Tottenham side who are on the back of a home victory and a great comeback derby draw at the Emirates. Not to mention the dramatic turn of events that unfolded last Saturday night, when Juande Ramos was relieved of his duties and replaced by Harry Redknapp.

So this game at White Hart Lane could pose a bigger test than expected, as they're tails may well be up and players will be trying to impress the new man in charge. But lets get one thing straight here, these players are the same players that have started the season so poorly, they are much weakened from the side we faced last season when they had such stars as Berbatov and Keane, they still have the same weak centre, in particular the midfield area and defensively they have been a shambles!...oh and the keeper isn't much cop either...

Seriously though, some people will say this could be a tricky encounter for the reds, they may be right, there is always that possibility those players who have performed so badly this season might just show that little bit extra for the new manager, but i think Liverpool have got what it takes to rise above that and claim the 3 points tomorrow evening.

Rafa rested a few players in midweek with this game in mind, players like Mascherano, Agger, Riera and Keane were all confined to the bench, so should be fresh for this game. Torres was also said to be close to a return but has had this game earmarked for the past week, so i've a feeling the Spanish superstar will return to the fold tomorrow.

I think this could be quite an open game, Tottenham like to play football the proper way and have some decent footballers in they're ranks, Bentley will be hoping to find his form from last season that has so far deserted him this campaign but he did score a wonder goal in midweek and will want to build upon that strike and i do think he may well get on the scoresheet via a free kick possibly.

But Liverpool could have a field day against the Tottenham rearguard and If Torres does play and is anywhere near to full fitness, he should cause them plenty of problems. Ive got a feeling Riera could play an important role in tomorrow's game aswell, he has been a very astute buy from Espanol and has given us natural width on the left hand side of midfield, he has good crossing ability into the box and can test the dodgy Gomes in the Spurs goal with his delivery. I also wonder whether Spurs will be able to pick up Gerrard's midfield runs and link play, they seem to struggle against creativity and Gerrard produces moments of brilliance that might undo them with ease.

I'm going to predict a 3-1 away victory for the Premier League leaders tomorrow, the game might start at a helter skelter, frenetic pace but once the game calms down and Liverpool get into they're stride, we should control the game and create many opening's, which will hopefully lead to goals. My goalscorers for Saturday are Torres, Gerrard and Benayoun, who i can see coming on in the second half to wrap things up.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool (Bentley / Torres, Gerrard, Benayoun)
