AFC Liverpool to honour Hillsborough 96
THE 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy will be remembered tonight by fans and staff at AFC Liverpool.
The newly-formed club is set to hold a minute's silence before their game against Norton United at Valerie Park, Prescot.
It will be followed by a six- minute protest during which supporters will chant 'Justice For The 96' to call for accountability for those who died on April 15, 1989.
The semi-professional club is also urging Liverpool Football Club to wear a special Hillsborough logo on their shirts for a one-off Premiership match.
This season, AFC have been displaying the number 96 in the centre of their strip.
It is accompanied by two eternal flames and the date of the disaster (15.04).
AFC Liverpool has called for Liverpool to mirror the move, possibly dropping the usual Carlsberg logo for the game against Blackburn.
The Reds play the Lancashire side four days before the 20th anniversary service at Anfield on April 15.
Already, there are 26,000 members of a group on social networking site Facebook supporting the suggestion.

It has been welcomed by Reds across the world with interest expressed in far-flung places like the Middle East and America.
AFC Liverpool fan Tommy Hurst, 35, from Huyton, who went to Hillsborough aged 15 and lost two friends, said: "The reaction to it has been brilliant.
"It would be hugely symbolic to not have a sponsored shirt for one match when we are remembering those who died at Hillsborough."
The idea has been suggested to Carlsberg and Liverpool FC who are considering a number of plans for games close to the anniversary.
The AFC Liverpool 96 shirts are being sold at the Hillsborough Justice shop with all profits going to three campaigning groups.
Some have been sold to exiled Reds now living abroad.
A spokesman for Liverpool FC said: "We would stress that the Liverpool badge itself carries a permanent commitment to the memory of those who died at Hillsborough.
"Every time we play, the eternal flame is on the club crest which commemorates those who lost their lives."
