Who should Liverpool let go in January?

By Barry Ringstead on Dec 13, 10 06:52 PM in Fans

It's hard to believe but the January transfer window is almost upon us and much of the talk will be centred on who Liverpool will bring in to strengthen the squad so we can make a push for that all important 4th spot (ever the optimist).

Just as important, however, will be who Liverpool should let go. So for the sake of creating a heated debated here are my picks of who should be thanked for their services and then politely shown the door.

Ryan Babel - he's had since to 2007 to prove what he can do besides continue to go up blind alleys and even though he's had a few good games recently for me it's "Sorry Ryan you've had long enough time to show what you can do so now you can twitter all day long about your new team".

Dirk Kuyt - Dirk's had some excellent games for Liverpool over the years and has a work rate second to none but he continues to frustrate with a poor passing game, mostly backward, and is unable to make those quality crosses. Thanks and good luck with your next club.

Milan Jovanovic - he hasn't been able to get the job done upfront and that's one positions we need the most help. If Liverpool are playing Ngog ahead of him then there's a problem.

Christian Poulsen - has not proved himself at all in midfield and unless there is some dramatic improvement in his form then the outcome is inevitable.

Roy Hodgson - I was willing to give Roy the benefit of the doubt when he joined Liverpool, even though since July 1990 his win ratio has been poor at 42%, on par with Graeme Souness (41%) but way below Kenny Dalglish (61%). Roy's achilles heel is his inability to win games away from home so I think Roy is a good manager for a team like Fulham but not of the calibre to take a team like Liverpool to the premiership title.

Just my opinion. I'll brace myself for a blasting but Liverpool need to make room for better quality players in January. Players that can deliver at the highest level and in order to do that we need to give the salary to those who can produce the goods.

Ryan, Poulson, Koncheski, janovic, cole, Aurelio. Should give us enough to get some quality, Pref Ashley young, Bojan to come in and bring back Insua (better than either we got now)

Would agree with most of the suggestions but certainly not with selling Dirk Kuyt. What he may lack in natural talent he makes up for with his lion's heart and strong physique. Dirk is seldom injured and recovers quickly from injuries. Moreover, he is a big-game player in the same mould as Stevie G. Kuyt is a Liverpool player through and through in that he has a never-say-die attitude and willingness to run all day for the team.

I can't agree with Jovanic and Kuyt, Poulsen & Konchesky most definitley. Kuyt is a reliable and versatile squad player useful to have on the bench. Jovanic cost nothing and has had little time to impress, he has pedigree and proven experience, again a useful addition to the squad.
Johnson is unhappy because he is being told to defend first, an obvious conclusion is to move him into RM and bring Kelly into RB.
So why do we need to buy a winger?
We have Torres, Cole, Jovanic, Ngog, Pacheco, Kuyt, Babel & Maxi who are all strikers.
So why do we need to buy a striker?
The Liverpool squad is strong, I think it's just the manager and his dinosaur training methods that are weak.

I agree with Mike Arms, Roy Hodgson should make way for a new manager.

Any manager, perhaps with the exception of Benitez and Hodgson still insist to play Johnson at RB where frankly speaking he should be played at RM and slot Martin Kelly at RB.

As for those who should leave and make room for new recruits, they are: Ryan Babel, Poulsen, Konchesky, Aurelo, Lucas (too lightweight for the BPL) and Roy Hodgson himself - the latter for having no clue to utilise his best team.

On any match day, LFC can play F = Torres & Ngog/Jovanovic/Kuyt/Pacheco, LM = Maxi/Jovanovic, RM = Johnson/Gerrard/Kuyt, MF = Gerrard & Meireless/Cole/Spearing, LB = Insua/Mavinga, CB = Skrtel & Soto/Carragher/Danny Wilson/Ayala and RB = Martin Kelly/Carragher

Great job, your post is very professional and friendly, I came to visit, it worth our learning.

I think that Babel deserves a run in the team, or atleast let him try to prove his worth. I also think, following his performance last night, Jovanovic should maybe get a bit more time too.

Get rid of the rest and bring in some new blood.
