The Ugly Side of the So-Called Liverpool Supporter
Yesterday having switched on the computer and logging into
my usual pages, I was not only shocked but absolutely disgusted at what I found
in front of me.
My first port of call was Twitter, which if used properly is a very good medium of communication, but on this occasion there were insults after insults aimed at Kenny Dalglish because the team had lost the previous afternoon. I took a deep breath and moved onto several Liverpool forums where it appeared that the same moronic Idiots (I make no apology for calling them this) had decided to further spread their vitriol.
Now I have been a Liverpool supporter for 46 years and am as angry and upset about our horrendous performance on Sunday as the next person, but the last thing I would do is insult my manager.
That manager of course is Kenny Dalglish, who in the course
of the club's history has done an awful amount for the City and Liverpool and
its football club, including winning us many honours during his first spell in
charge. What he and nobody else can do
is bring us instant success overnight, particularly after the horror of the
Hicks and Gillett reign.
Kenny, his staff and the players are now on their way to Brighton for our Carling Cup game tomorrow and they need our support as their confidence has been shot to pieces. Those on Twitter or those who visit the Liverpool forums under assumed names, do not need to see insult after insult because all it will do is hammer their confidence even more.
So to those of you out there who class yourselves as Liverpool Supporters, let me ask you this question. Do you want to help your club regain the status and position that in the past belonged to them, or do you want to spend another 20 years in the wilderness.
If you answer is the first part of my question, then I suspect you are from my generation who grew up and learnt about Liverpool Football Club, so much so that you became part of its family. A family that still exists today, which is why even though we were losing on Sunday, the travelling Kop were signing their hearts out and getting behind the embattled team. We also understand that it was just another hiccup in a football season that lasts nine months and it is something that will be rectified as the season goes on.
Those of you that fancy spending another twenty years in the wilderness, I suspect are those that jumped on the bandwagon after our European Cup win in 2005 and cannot understand why some games are lost. This unfortunately sets in motion, the vitriol that has been thrown around the net over the last couple of days.
To insult the manager and his players, may seem the best way out of the situation for you, but tell me, would you be able to manage a club that is doing all it can to manage the expectations set by itself and SO CALLED SUPPORTERS. I know I wouldn't because although football is a game, it must be one of the hardest occupations in the world.
So please can you all do us true supporters a favour by supporting other clubs and taking your moronic out of order comments with you. YOU ARE NOT WANTED IN THE LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB FAMILY.

Agreed - ALL of these morons are the same ones that helped stab Rafa in the back and land us with Hodgson...
They are to a man - johnny come lately day trippers (i.e. they hadnt heard of Liverpool until 2005) who have zero knowledge of the history of Liverpool FC
You are quite right - they are not wanted as supporters of Liverpool - they can sod right off and follow the chavs - thats more their level
Fuck off with this article of yours, you hav no right of demanding fellow kops 2 luk 4 other clubs 2 support, a manager is a manager. I dont give a fucking sh**t if he is Daglish or what. His tactics mes us nd thts all. NKT!
While you make a good point, you come off as one of those codgers who think they own the club. There is no right way of being a supporter. Some people's upbringing is such that they have little patience and will resort to insult to be heard.
I don't condone that.
But I don't think you are going to change much about it either.
Also, do you really think KD and his players read these blogs?
Dont write us off for the Premiership yet - now very nice odds and even juicier ber on Andy to be top scorer.Impossible ? -no that was being 3-0 down to A C Milan and we all know what happenned next - COME ON ANDY LAD
To be perfectly honest, your blind faith is just as frustrating as the nonconstructive abuse being hurled at the time.
It's perfectly normal for fans to question their managers decision when they lose two in a row, and especially in the manner of the loss yesterday.
Those fans you refer to post 2005 are also the ones who provide the club with close to 1/3 of its revenue so I'm not quite sure why you want them gone. Unless you want to be a mid table side forever?
I don't care how good Dalglish was as a player or even how good a manager he was in the 1990's. We don't live in the past so he has serious questions to answer with regards to the club.
Stop expecting our history to get us results. We live in reality.
I too think that no personal comments should ever be thrown at the manager or players but as for posting negative comments about performance / tactics / transfers well the modern game has changed since yester year!
Every fan who wears his shirt with pride has a right to talk and discuss his views!! Simple As.. Be it in the pub or at work or online.. it could be argued that if we hadnt of screamed and shouted we'd still have Hodgson? yes you are going to get incorherent rubbish and alot of anger but we will also get alot of well thought out and well presented views from all walks of LFC fans.
Please stop preaching to us as to what we can and cant say online and learn to read between the lines.
I haven't seen too many people writing off the team or having a go at the players/manager after the loss to Spurs. We didn't turn up and were out played on the day. Although we did play better with 10 men than 11, Spurs only managed their 2nd goal after we went down to 9 men.
I think anyone who is reacting to the loss in the way you described have set their sights too high for KD's first full season back. 1 defeat doesn't mean the end of the season. We're currently sitting in 8th after 5 games played, ok it's not where we'd want to be but it's much better than 16th at this time last year. It was disappointing we couldn't get anything from the game at Stoke but they are a team who defend very well and are difficult to break down at home. Things are still being learnt by both the players and the manager - who can play where effectivley and who best partners who. You also have to remember things need to be changed up every now and again otherwise the other teams will learn your tatics and you'll never be able to win any game.
In the end we started slowly against Spurs and they never allowed us any time to get our structure back, well played to them and lesson learnt from us, now lets look forward.
It's a generational thing. The web gives everyone the opportunity to vent frustrations in public. 20 years ago you might have been criticising the team over a pint, but it wasn't posted on the web for all to see. Take it with a pinch of salt.
I do agree that a lot of people seem to change opinion from week to week depending on one or two results, or one bad performance. It's silly really. These things take time and teams have off days.
People should reserve judgement until January or February.
Everyone has the freedom to express their views whether or not it is good or bad, right or wrong, and agree or disagree. There's simply no way everyone would have the same perspective. I see your frustration towards the ones who start insulting King Kenny, but can you stop them? No. Similar to how to start calling them morons. I didn't said I am their side. I respect King Kenny. If it wasn't him, then there will be less trophies in the cabinet. If it wasn't him, then Liverpool would not have a strong history. He play big part in Liverpool industrious history. But now, it's present. People will only remember present no matter how good the past looks. It's past. Nothing we can bring back. But it's wrong to see them already judge King Kenny. Without him, will we see Suarez coming to our club? Didn't Suarez said that apart from Liverpool's reputation, Kenny was also his main factor to his decision. So fans nowadays are impatient. Seriously, why? Because they are tired to see Chelsea and Manchester United compete for trophies every single year while they think that, we did never improve. Thus, it's them who doesn't realize that, the club is under transition. A change. Kenny doesn't have that magic power to delivery instant success. It's a step by step process.
