You'll Never Walk Alone
Is as you are all aware the song adopted by Liverpool
Supporters in the 1960's after it was played at Anfield before a game. It is a song that, when sung lets the players
know that we, the supporters are right behind the team and our manager.
That song at the moment is now needed more than ever,
because as you all know, all is not well in the Liverpool Football Club set
up. I have no idea what that is, but
something is affecting the players in such a way, that they seem unable to play
with the same effort week in and week out. The game against Swansea at the
weekend highlighted this once more. It
was the same old story, put us a pitch with 11 players from a team classed as a
minnow of the Premiership and we go to pieces.
We are also without our two main talismen at the moment, but with a
squad that contains quite a few high profile players, it should not have made
an iota of difference. It did though and
the resulting score line also led once more to the unhealthy side of the
supporter fan base crawling out of the wood work.
The people I am talking about of course are those supporters
who believe that everything happens in an instant and when it is not too their
liking, they spout vitriol and create unnecessary chaos with every move they
make.
Over the last couple of weekends, I have had all sorts
thrown at me about the club and have been insulted because I am prepared to
give Kenny, Steve and Kevin, time to get the team back to where it should
be. Why is this, you may ask, the answer
is below.
When Bill Shankly was appointed in 1959 the club was in a
Mess. Did we see them at the top of the First division immediately - NO WE DID
NOT. It took several seasons, seasons in which at the beginning Bill had to
virtually plea for the funds to buy players. He also made mistakes along the
way before 1965 when on the 1st May people suddenly realised Liverpool were
going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The same thing happened to Sir Alex Ferguson, who if you know your
football history was on the verge of being sacked before someone said and I
quote "hang on a minute, let's give him a bit longer" This they did
and the rest they say is history.
History is repeating itself and Kenny is taking the team through
a transition stage. Yes there will be mistakes made and the wrong players
brought. The players will lose
confidence and our results will not be as most of you seem to believe they
should be, but sometimes it takes situations such as the team is going through
at the moment, to highlight problems that may have not have seemed as serious
as they actually are.
This time last year, we were suffering under a manager who
was totally out of his depth and to be honest you could have thrown a
bottomless pit of money at him, and it would not have made an iota of
difference. The club realised this and
called Kenny back from a well-earned holiday.
Did he moan - no he did not, he accepted the challenge in front of him
and promised to do his very best.
Now that challenge is still in front of him and will remain
so for some time yet. He cannot wave a
magic wand and hey presto we are sitting at the top of the Premiership. It will as I have said take time. It is far
more important to get the team playing like a team that has been together for a
while. If this is successful then the success we all crave will follow. This
is, as I have said above not happening at the moment, but I am sure, Kenny will
work with those not selected for their national teams over the coming fortnight
to try and find out, what is causing the crisis of confidence or indeed the ' I
could not give a damn attitude'. This of
course will continue with the players selected upon their return. The solution found may mean that some of the
players lose their place in the team, quite rightly so of course, but it will
be a lesson learnt and one that should ensure that they play to the best of
their ability in the future.
We the supporters have our part to play in this also, and
this must start with being MORE PATIENT
THAN SOME OF YOU APPEAR TO BE AT THE MOMENT.
We must get behind the team and in particular KENNY, who sensing the disquiet amongst the supporter base issued a
statement yesterday. The majority of
manager's would not have done that and it shows us the type of man Kenny
is. He not only cares about the club and
the team, but the supporter base as well.
He knows we are upset and angry and quite frankly we must
all get behind him and tell him in the words of the song KENNY, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE.
Do that and you will
find, the next time the team play at Anfield a renewed sense of hope around the
team, a sense of hope that will eventually see you line the streets of
Liverpool to congratulate the team. It
may not happen this season, it may not indeed happen next season, but it will
happen.
If you cannot do that and continue to try and destroy what
small shreds of confidence are left, then quite frankly you are not a Liverpool
supporter.

"That song at the moment is now needed more than ever..." Give over lad, we have had far more darker times under the 4 previous managers than this! It's a new team bedding in that's all...give them time - you sound like a Wolves fan!
That song is the world to us liverpool fans, when at the ground and when we sing it gives us pride, we all know our team can play better than that, so get behind them Kenny and the lads will never walk alone, heads up lads.
YOU NEVER WALK ALONE
this blog made me sit back and think,i was guilty of some of your points, now i have read this sat back and thought your right rome wasnt built in a day and more than ever we need to get behind kenny and the lads.i am one person who was sick of bad players on the pitch but i was also guilty of thinking kennys the manager and all the problems will be sorted overnight.
Peter Worth said it right, the really dark times are behind us, and now it's getting slowly brighter. We got a quality side at the moment, I think we can achieve the same things LFC achieved in the years 00-06. To compete for a top four finish should be our first goal, and when Stevie and the new players adapt well, we got a side that can smash the big clubs at all time. Just the thing that seems to be going on with the smaller/lower clubs has to be solved, but in Kenny i trust!
